Wonder weapons are a Call of Duty Zombies staple, and returning to the game with season two ofCall of Duty: Black Ops 6is the Staff of Ice. First introduced in Black Ops 2, this magical staff does precisely as its name implies: freeze anything in its path, which is obviously a very useful ability to have in a game like this.
Don’t expect the game to justgiveyou the Staff of Ice, though. You’ll be working for it or be taunted by the game for it, but it’s worth the effort for its crowd-control potential alone. You’ll learn everything you need to know about getting the Staff of Ice here.
How To Get The Staff Of Ice
There aretwo waysto get the Staff of Icein The Tomb. The “easiest” is toplay the mystery boxfor it. The other is tosolve puzzlesin the level.
Like most Wonder Weapons, theStaff of Ice is a possible dropfrom the box, but you’ll be contending with the random chance ofthe box.The luckiest among uscould get it on the first pullfrom the box, but you might alsowaste thousands of Essencein the process.
You can, of course, use a Legendary Wonderbar! Gobblegumfor a guaranteed Staff of Ice, but unless you’ve playeda lotof Zombies, those might be in short supply.
Themore consistentway to get the Staff of Ice is tosolve a series of puzzlesand thendefend the Staffas it manifests.
How To Get All Three Pieces Of The Staff Of Ice
Before you can craft the Staff of Ice,you needthree items: theMonocle, the Head, and the Staff. The Monocle is the simplest. Reachround sevenand defeat theShock Mimicthat spawns. It drops the Monocle where it dies.
Next, you need tosolve two puzzlesto unlock the Head and Staff parts.
One puzzle you’ll find onsquare D3 on the top laneof the map in the room with thebull paintings and Death Perception. The other puzzle ison the lower lane in square D5, just a bitnortheast of Deadshot Daiquiri. Look for a wall painting of a bow-wielding warrior.
The first part of the puzzle is the simplest. As you explore The Tomb, you’ll see purple-white glowing crystals in tentacled torch sconces. There are 18 of them total — nine for the top lane and nine for the bottom.
Shooting these crystalsdestroys themand causes them tomove to another sconcebased onthe direction you were facingwhen you shot them. Your goal is topush the crystal torchesas close to that lane’s painting as possible.
So while you should alwaysshoot the crystal torcheswhile facingtoward their intended destination, the tracking and their placement don’t always allow for accurate aiming.
Youmay have to shoot a few extra times, but keep yourself pointedtoward the proper torchsconce, and the crystal will get there in due time.
Once the crystal is as close as possible to its linked painting, aset of symbols will appearon the paintings on the wall. These symbols arelike Roman numerals, and you need toshoot them in the correct orderfrom lowest to highest to progress.
Each time youshoot a symbol, it will briefly glow blue. Acorrect selectionthenglows green, and anincorrectselection glowsred. There isno punishmentfor shooting the wrong symbolbeyond a short delaybefore you can try again.
There areeight symbols on the bullpainting, andten on the warrior. After shooting them in thecorrect order, your screen willflash white, removing all standard zombies from the map.
While active, thepuzzle combat challengeareas are marked asunique spaceswithin the level, and you canenter and leave them wheneveryou like.Standard zombies aren’t allowed in; puzzle zombies are not allowed out.
Shortly after theflash recedes, a pinkenergy orb will formnear the surface of the painting. It will then fly off and float in an area nearby, summoning a wave of zombies. Unlike standard zombies, these puzzle-specific onesaren’t affected by the flamesthe crystal torches leave behind.
There arefive waves, one per location, andeach is tougher than the last. The first two waves contain regularzombies, Vermin, and Parasites, but the final three waves pit you againstboth Shock Mimics and Doppalgasts.
There’sno time limitto clearing these enemies, but theyall must be destroyedto reach the next wave.
When thelast enemy dies, the purple energy orb will return to the painting andreward you with a Max Ammo, the Head Piecepart for the lower lane, andthe Stafffor the upper lane.
How To Assemble The Staff Of Ice
Here comes the tough part. Toassemble the Staff of Ice, you need to go into theDark Aether realm, which is accessible via the Door to Nowhere portals. You open the first byinserting the Amuletkey item into thealtar in the eastern room in The Tomb.
In the Dark Aether, approachthe center ritual sculpturewith its three large circle ornaments. Press your platform’sinteract button in front of the small holein the sculpture’s center tosummon the Staff parts, then get ready for a fight.
Hordes of zombies, Parasites, Vermin, and eventually Elite zombies will begin to spawn. Your goal is tokeep the enemies away from the Stafffor 90 seconds while it fully manifests, a tall order whennearly 50 zombies are attackingall at once.
During thisfinal combat challenge, zombieswill attempt toapproach the Staff and damageit. If itshealth bar reaches zero, the manifestation will fail, and you’llneed to start a new roundto try again. The process is otherwise the same.
Here are some tips tosuccessfully assemble the Staffof Ice:
Provided you canprotect the Staff of Ice for the 90 secondsit needs to assemble, you’ll see a final white flash and be able tograb the Wonder Weapon for yourselfto use as your secondary weapon. Note thatit does take up a weapon slot, so be sure you don’t mind losing the weapon it replaces.
