Once you meet up with Antonio inIndiana Jones And The Great Circle, your next step is to find a camera so that you may document the strange inscriptions hidden around the Vatican. The game takes place in 1937, and personal cameras are still a rare novelty; the only one available belongs to Ernesto, who runs the lost and found at the Vatican Post Office.
Of course, the streets are crawling with Mussolini’s troops, so getting the camera won’t just be a simple trip around the corner. This guide will help you get the all-important item so that you can continue your investigation.
How To Get To The Vatican Post Office
After you emerge from the catacombs in the library, Antonio will give you theClerical Key.This lets youopen doors with stained-glass windowsthroughout Vatican City, including those that lead to the stairwell out of the library. Use it toreach the streets outside.
You’ll emerge inBelvedere Plaza.Note themilitary tents on the left;there are some items inside that you’re able to steal, including money that will be useful later, but you need to do so without being seen.See belowfor tips on stealing from the fascists.
The road to the Vatican Post Office isthrough the tunnel between the two tents.At the other end, you’ll find that the street isblocked off by soldiers, and the clergy are arguing with the guards. Even if you were to fight the soldiers (which is not recommended), the gate would still be closed and locked;you need to find another way around.
Facing the locked gate,look to the right;there’s an alleyway that you’re able to enter. Use the crates toclimb onto the nearby roofand make your way over the gate. You canzipline back to the street levelusing the rope on the far side.
How To Get Inside The Vatican Post Office
The street around the Vatican Post Office is arestricted areauntil the soldiers leave; even if with your disguise, guards will attack if they see you. Your zipline escapademay have alerted a lone guard, who will investigate your landing spot; listen for his dialogue, andtake him down stealthily with a nearby objectif you have to.
If you do have to knock out the guard,immediately pick him up and hide himbehind the truck in the corner; another guard patrols this area with a dog and will see the body if you don’t.
Stay out of sight until the guard with the dog turns to leave, thenclimb into the open window at the rear of the Post Office, indicated by a flowing white curtain.
How To Get Enough Money To Buy The Camera
Take the Risotto Recipe from the table across from the window, thenuse the Clerical Keyto enter the main area of the Post Office through the door to your right. Speak to Ernesto in his office, and he’ll demand379 lirefor the camera.
The soldiers leave the area during the conversation with Ernesto, so you can now come and go through the front door and use the previously-closed street to easily return to Belvedere Plaza.
If you don’t have enough cash, the easiest way to get it is toreturn to the military tents on the plazaand steal it. The tent closest to the library is lightly guarded;as long as nobody else is inside, you should have little trouble getting away with your petty crime.
If you do get caught stealing,run away and get to another area; a fight here will bring the entire army down on your head.
The other tent is trickier, as it’swatched by the Blackshirt in the guard boothnext to the tunnel. The easiest method for handling him is totake the cleaning brushfrom the bucket in the tent by the library, or some other innocent-looking tool, and wait by the guard booth until nobody is looking. When the coast is clear,knock out the guardand quickly walk into the tent and swipe the cash before anyone notices.
Be sure to take the Medicine Bottle from the table as well; you can use it totrade for Adventure Bookswith Sister Valeria, who runs the Pharmacy near the Post Office.
How To Open The Locked Chest
On the far side of the tent is achest secured by a combination lock.You can find the combination in thedrawer of the desk next to it.The movie ticket in the drawer is partially punched; by turning it over, you can find the first half of the combination.The code is 5238.
The chest has a wad of bills inside, which will go a long way toward purchasing the camera.
How To Buy The Camera From Ernesto
When you have the money,pick up the camera from Ernesto’s deskand use the jump button to confirm the purchase. If you have extra money left over, you canbuy the Adventure Books on the right side of the deskusing the same method.
Don’t forget to take Ernesto’s photo before you leave; doing so unlocks theEcco! Achievement/Trophy.
