Choosing the right weapon inDynasty Warriors: Originscan have a major impact on your performance in battle. Traits, attack power, and the available Battle Arts are all important things to consider before taking the field. When in doubt, though, it’s hard to go wrong with the legendary blades of the Guardians of Peace, the Luan Weapons.
The Luan Weapons are only available after you’ve completed the game once, and require some skillful play across several key missions to unlock them all. If you’re looking to complete the set, here’s everything you need to know.
The unlock conditions for each Luan Weaponmust be completed on Ultimate Warrior Difficultyin order to count. The easiest way to return to a mission you’ve already completed is via the Story Menu at an Inn.
Lurking Luan (Sword)
Final Battle Against The Yellow Turbans (Chapter 1)
The Lurking Luan isone of the easier ultimate weapons to obtain. As long as you’ve built up to at least Rank 80 and have a decent Epic Weapon, getting the sword of the Guardians of Peace will mostly be a matter ofreplaying the final mission of Chapter 1.
All you have to do isdisband Zhang Bao’s large force within 15 minutes of the mission starting. The map is large and maze-like, so you’ll have pick your battles. Try to ensure thatZhou Cangon the west side of the map andZhang Liangin the northeast are defeated before about ten mintues have passed to ensure that you have as many allies as possible for the main charge.
While you do need to defeat Zhang Bao after dismantling his army to complete the mission and complete the reward, youdon’t need to proceed to the boss fight against Zhang Jiao afterward.
Flying Luan (Spear)
Battle Of Jieqiao (Chapter 3, Liu Bei)
The Flying Luan is another easy pickup, but you need to be fast and decisive. In the Battle of Jieqiao, Liu Bei and his companions race along the southern edge of the map to warn Gongsun Zan about Qu Yi’s hidden ambush.
To get the Flying Luan, turn around at the start of the missioninstead of following Liu Bei. Go to the northwest corner of the central battlefield andfind Qu Yi’s hidden squad. Defeating Qu Yi before three minutes have passed will earn you the Flying Luan after you win the battle, and allow the Baima Cavalry charge go off without a hitch.
Striking Luan (Gauntlet)
Battle Of Xiaopei (Chapter 3, Liu Bei)
In the Battle of Xiaopei, the Sun Clan is forced to fight for their conniving liege Yuan Shu. you’re able to earn the Striking Luan bydefeating Sun Ce within the first ten minutes of the battle.
Ce is right in the middle of the map, so rushing him isn’t a problem; however, his commanding officer keeps ordering him to redeploy, and he will disengage whenever this happens. To keep your momentum up,finish conquering whichever base you were fighting forbefore giving chase.
Keep the pressure on Sun Ce while your allies handle the rest of the battle; by the time he goes down, you’ll be a stone’s throw from Ji Ling, whom you need to defeat to win the battle.
Singing Luan (Wheels)
Battle Of Xiangyang (Chapter 3, Sun Clan)
The Battle of Xiangyang is themajor turning point for the Sun Clan. The death of Sun Jian forces your army to retreat, but you canalso claim victory by defeating Liu Biaowithout any support from your allies.
Follow the path north along the east side of the map, taking the base in the corner. From there, you’re in a good position toattack the east gate of Liu Biao’s castle.
You may need to retreat to defend or retake the corner base at least once.
By the time Sun Jian falls, you should have cleared enough of the enemies at the gate that your guards can batter the door down. Before going in for the kill, ride south to protect Sun Ce and his companions.Once they’re safe and the southern base is secure, they should be fine on their own while you go back to the open gate and eliminate Liu Biao.
Soaring Luan (Podao)
Battle Of Bowangpo (Chapter 5, Liu Bei)
This is another one where you need to be quick; unlocking the Soaring Luan requiresdefeating Yu Jin and Li Dianbefore they investigate the bases.
To do this, you’ll need toride straight for the enemy’s main armyand engage both officers at the very start, since they depart early on.Taking Zhang Fei as your companionstarts you closer to the center of the map, giving you a straight shot to the battle line.
Zhang Liao is also present with Yu Jin and Li Dian; as good as it would be to eliminate him as well, focus on your main targets firstand retreat once they’re defeated if necessary. Zhuge Liang’s fire attack will take care of Zhang Liao soon enough.
Thrashing Luan (Staff)
Battle Of Chibi (Chapter 5, Cao Cao)
The Thrashing Luan is one of the hardest Luan Weapons to get, as it requires you tospeedrun the climactic Battle Of Chibion Cao Cao’s side.
The target time is 21 minutes, but you spend a full minute on the transport ship at the start of the mission, so really you only have 20.
To pull this off, don’t try to stop Zhuge Lian’s planor eliminate the enemy commanders; Huang Gai will start the fire attack with or without Zhuge Liang’s signal if Sun Quan or Liu Bei are in danger.
Instead, focus ondefeating as many named officers as possible before the fire attack begins. Beating them while Cao Cao’s army still has the advantage will make it so that you have fewer pursuers when the time comes to escape.
attempt to hunt down characters that you can duel; Guan Yu, Sun Shangxiang, Gan Ning, and Huang Gai once he reveals his deception.
Once the retreat begins, save as many fleeing officers as you canfor support in the final push on the northern shore. You essentially need to beat every officer on the map before Cao Cao will actually move to the exit, so you’ll need all the help you can get.
Bellowing Luan (Twin Pikes)
Battle Of Xiapi (Chapter 4, Cao Cao)
The Battle of Xiapi can be played from both Cao Cao and Liu Bei’s storylines, butthe Bellowing Luan is only available in Cao Cao’s. To obtain it, you need todefeat Zhang Liao at the castle gatesbefore Guo Jia and the engineers sabotage the dam.
This is fairly straightforward - justrush the gates and fight Zhang Liao. It’s a good idea to secure the bases nearest the bridge first so you have a retreat point ready, but be warned;Lu Bu will periodically rampage through the west side of the map.
Defeating Zhang Liao will open the castle gates, letting you proceed inside to fight Chen Gong. Like the Lurking Luan above, completing the mission with the conditions fulfilled will unlock the Bellowing Luaneven if you don’t move on to the boss fight against Lu Bu immediately afterward.
Whirling Luan (Lance)
Battle Of Changban (Chapter 5, Cao Cao)
The Battle Of Changban requires a lot of speed to catch and defeat Liu Bei before he escapes, so adding on the condition totake out Zhang Fei and Zhao Yunon top of that - within 11 minutes, no less - is a tall order.
Start bypicking one of the nearby bases to take. The western base has fewer officers guarding it, but one of them is Zhou Cang. The eastern base has more guards, but none of them are especially powerful.
Once you have a base,go to the bridge guarded by Zhang Fei.Trying to cross the bridge will lock you into a duel, which lets you defeat him quickly and with the clock paused.
With Zhang Fei defeated, mount up and race north to catch Zhao Yun on the circular road. He’ll technically come back around to the bridge, but it’s faster to chase after him if you dueled Zhang Fei. If you didn’t duel Zhang Fei, chances are you won’t have enough time to fight Zhao Yun and stay within the limit.
Conquering Luan (Crescent Blade)
Assault On Xiapi (Chapter 4, Cao Cao)
The map for this battle will look very familiar, since Cao Cao returns to take Xiapi after defeatng Lu Bu there. Guan Yu is defending it this time, and to get the Conquering Luan, you need todefeat him before he returns to the castle after being lured out.
This is mostly a question of being able todefeat a powerful enemy quickly.Bring your best gear and Battle Arts that are good at breaking officers' Fortitude, and focus solely on taking down Guan Yu.
Rampaging Luan (Halberd)
Battle Of Hulao Gate (Chapter 2)
Lu Bu is a fearsome enemy, but luckily you don’t have to face him with his boss stats atHulao Gate.To get the Rampaging Luan, all you have to do isbeat Lu Buwhen he appears, then proceed to defeat Dong Zhuo as normal.
When Lu Bu first rides out,do as much damage as you canbut attempt to conserve your health, Musou, and consumables. Wait for him to deploy his Ultimate Musou Attack, thenfollow him to the cliffwhere Liu Bei and his team will engage him. With their help, your improved postgame stats, and the ability to fall back to bases while Liu Bei locks Lu Bu down if necessary, you can defeat the Flying Warrior.
Beating Lu Bu at Hulao Gate also unlocks him as a companion, and starts his Bond storyline.
