InDave The Diver, there are some creatures that are not easy to catch. Or, catch alive that is. The spider crab is one of those very species, making it seem like the only way to bring these crustaceans back up to land is to viciously crack them up with rocks.
Well, there are other ways to catch these crabs. The game only presents one obvious solution, but as you continue playing, you will be able to craft or buy what you need to bring with you on your dive. This guide will go over where you need to go and what you need to do.
Introduction To Spider Crabs
There are many members of the crustacean family thathide away in rocks, needing to be coaxed into traps. That isnot true for the massive spider crabs. No rocks could contain these creatures.
Spider Crab Locations
Spider crabs lurk in theBlue Hole Depths. It will be made obvious when you enter the correct depth since yourflashlight will turn onand the water will becomevery dark blue.
You will findtwo spider crabswhen you come across theskeletal remains of a massive, whale-like creature. You are shown this location whilstfollowing the pesky little octopusthat annoys Dave but actually helps by creating shortcuts throughout the game.
You can also find spider crabs just below theentrance of the underwater lakeif you swimdown and to the rightof the stone doorway. You can also find them just outside thedoor to The Sea People Village. They live alongthe bottom to the left of the Village.
If you are struggling to find them, note that they can only be found betweendepths of 130m to 250m. You can find out how deep you are in the water by looking at thebottom left of your screen.
But the basics are, if you can see a lighter blue sea, you’re too high up. If you hit the door to The Sea People Village, don’t enter and go left instead.
Spider crabs are only active duringthe morning and afternoon dives. Youcan not go into the depths at night, meaning you won’t find any if you decide to jump back into the water when it’s dark out.
How Do You Catch Spider Crabs?
You will quickly find that spider crabs areimmune to the damage from your gun. So, how do you catch them? There are a few different ways to go about it.
Blue Rocks
One of the convenient things about all the spider crab locations is that you will notice theseloose, blue rocks on the ground. Once youunlock the special glovesfor Dave that allow him to grip and pull several stakes in the nearby, underwater cliffs, then you canpick up these rocks and use themas weapons.
Then, you essentially throw rocks at the crabs to kill them.
It’s that easy. However, dead sea creatures and fishare often of worse quality. So, while this is the easiest way, and the only way available readily to you,it isn’t the best way.
Steel Net Sensor Traps
As the game progresses, you will be introduced to tuna, whichrequires these fancy Trapsthat Cobra comes in possession of:Steel Net Sensor Traps. Even though these are used on the high-octane, speed demons that are tuna, you canuse them on spider crabs too.
This will give you a spider crab that isstill alive and of a higher quality, eithertwo or three stars. You only havetwo trapswhen youbuy them from Cobra’s Premium Shop, so you will only end up with two because the crabs arenever close enough togetherto lure multiple to a trap at once.
You can also use this method on thesally lightfoot crabs, which leap at you when you swim tothe left inside the sunken yellow cargo boatyou can enter.
Steel Net Gun
Deep into the game’s progression, you will finally be able to upgrade your Net Gun to the highest option possible:The Steel Net Gun. This gun cancompletely replace the Steel Net Sensor Trapsas it does the same thing, butmore efficiently.
Instead of needing to set a trap and lure the beast, you can set Dave in asafe place, take aim, and firea Steel Net at the crab, catching it aliveand well.
Similarly to the Traps, this gives you the ability to catch spider crabsat the highest quality possible.
To make a Steel Net Gun, you will have to have aLarge Net Gunas well as aSteel Rope, three pelican eel skin,20 topaz, and 3,400 goldto spend on the project.
Fish Farm
Although you weren’t able to originally, an update made it possible to havespider crabs in your fish farm. This means that instead of needing toconstantly go out and catch themeach time you want them for a dish, you can have themgrow up in captivity.
This will happen naturally as the game progresses, catching both the crabs themselves as well as their roe, but you will have to havea spot opened upthat supports fish and creatures you find at that same depth:between 130m to 250m.
To unlock this space, and eventually upgrade how many fish and creatures it can hold, youwill need to buy the 130m through 250m upgrades from Otto.
