As you explore the world ofLuma Island, you’ll almost certainly come across a variety of ruins scattered across the different regions. If you’ve ventured inside and explored them, you might find a special locked door in each one, marked with a not-too-friendly-looking skull sign.
Ordinarily, you can’t open it up – there’s no breaking it with a whip, flipping a switch in the room, or hitting it with your pickaxe. However, if you’ve chosen to become an Archaeologist and get mentored by Arianne, you’ll be able to open up these doors and unlock a path full of mystery and ancient legends.
What Is The Archaeologist Profession?
The Archaeologist Profession isone of the seven available Professionsyou canchoose from at the Town Hallafter completing the tutorial or getting your first profession, and it’s theonly one marked with three Skulls, as opposed to regular difficulty stars.
you’re able to have multiple Professions at one time, or even all seven at once, but youpay an increasing cost in Gold for each Profession permit you buy.
This is due to thedifficulty of obtaining the Broken Relicsas part of your quests, and because you can actuallylose the relics while you’re gathering them, and will need toreobtain themif you want tocraft the restored item multiple timesafter a certain point.
Broken Relics areclassified as fragile objects, and once youpick them upfrom one of theArchaeologist-only roomsfound in each Temple, you obtain aLost On Death item menuthat exists the entire time you’rewithin the temple.
Each timeyou die and return to the entranceof a room, youlose one of these lives, and if yourun out of them, the Broken Relics willbe destroyed, and you’ll need topick them up from their Archaeologist Roomagain.
Taking ahit from a minor enemy such as a Bat and losing a few items doesn’t count as a death, and won’t count towards the Broken Relics disappearing. Things that areconsidered a deathandlower your livesinclude:
Leaving the temple at any point willcause you to forfeit the items in your Lost On Death menu, and you’ll need to get the relics again.
The good thing is thateach roomin a temple has aseparate life count. For example, if youlost two out of your three livesto different traps butentered the next room, your lostlives would get refilled.
Once youcomplete and exit the temple via the last roomwithout losing the Broken Relics, you’ll berewarded with a permanent versionthat can be used in crafting torestore its respective relic, andwon’t be lost if you happen to dieoutside the temple.
How To Find Broken Relics
Broken Relics arealways found within regional temples, and there’s a total ofsix of them per regionexcept for the Farm, as it only hastwo available.
TheYucatali Necklace, Ring, Staff, and Chalice don’t havebroken versions found in a temple, and they’re the only relics you may craft with regular materials in the Archaeologist’s Workbench.
Getting the temporary Broken Relics is easy. All you need to do isenter a temple, open thedoor with the skull insignia in the first room, and thengrab the two relicsoff the floor.
The real difficulty will then come in having tocomplete the templefor the first timeor go through its puzzles againwithout losing all your Archaeology Lives in one roomand having the temporary relics get destroyed.
At first, this won’t be too difficult, but it willgradually become harder to doas the temples get more rooms and become more difficult.
How To Get More Archaeology Lives
Toget more liveswithin a temple, you’ll need toupgrade your Whipto specific levels. Each time youreach the end of an upgrade tier, you’ll need thenext main material to transform itinto a new version.
When you do this, you’llget another Archaeology Life, up to amaximum of fiveby the time youobtain the Volcanic Whip, the final type available.
