Quick Links
Like many cozy games and life sims,Luma Islandhas its own farming system, but with some unique spins on the classic game mechanic. Between plants and trees, you’ll have a wide variety of crops to grow and make food and drinks out of, but that’s not all. Much like real life, you’ll need to deal with pests.
Weeds and insects will impede the growth of your crops, so you’ll need small farm animals to help you out, but they’ll get preyed upon by foxes if you aren’t careful. There’s automation that makes things easier, magical Everseeds mean you won’t have to replant things after you harvest them, and more to discover if you’re willing to live the life of a farmer.
How To Grow Crops
Crops will be themain way to get ingredients for recipesif you’ve chosen theCook or Brewer Profession, and to get them growing, you’llneed the Hoe and Watering Canobtained at the start of the game, and seeds.
First, remove anything that breaks up the areayou want to grow things in, such as Ferns or Trees, thenuse the Hoeto plow a section of land andturn it into tilled earth.
Plant groups of tree-based crops like Apples and Starfruitinevery other row so you can easily walk between and tend to them.
Now you canplant your seedsin the tilled earth. Each plant takes upone tile worth of space, including trees, but onlyplant-type crops, such as Blueberries and Chili Peppers, canbe walked through.
If youwant to remove a cropso you can place it somewhere else or change what you’re growing, you canapproach themwithany type of axeandhold down Interact toremove it.
You’llget the seed back, and if it’s a tree, you’ll get a small amount of Farm Wood, Twigs, andFarm Resinas well.
You canharvest multiple crops at one time with the Hoe by charging it up near at least one harvestable crop, and it won’t destroy the plant.
Where To Buy Seeds
There aretwo types of seedsyou can get:regular and Everseeds. For regular seeds, these can bebought at the Farmer’s Shopand new crops will becomeavailable as you unlock Cooking and Brewing recipes.
When a crop grown from a regular seed isharvested the maximum numberof times, it’ll disappear, and you’llneed to replant itusing another seed, unless it’s a treeorone of three naturally regrowing crops: Grapes, Chili Peppers, and Kiwi Fruit.
Trees don’t have an Everseed variant, as they’ll endlessly produce fruit as long as you keep them healthy and don’t cut them down.
WithEverseed versionsof crops, they’ll becomeinfinitely regrowing, as theseed will automatically replant itselfafter being harvested.
Everseeds can befound in chests of any rarityonce you’ve found the crop once, though they’re muchmore common in Purple or Orange chests, or they can bepurchased from the Mushroom Man’s shopsfor their respective Nature currencies.

How To Water Crops
At first, your only way to water crops will beusing the Watering Canto do it one tile at a time, butas you progressin the game, you’llunlock ways to do it more efficiently: the early gameGardening Hoseand the twomid-to-late-game Sprinklers.
Gardening Hose
The Gardening Hose’s drawingcosts 2000 Goldand takesfive Forest Wood Planksandfive Iron Barsto make and takes up asingle tile of space. Once placed down, you caninteract with it and equip the hosein your hand.
While holding it, you may use it towater multiple plantsaround you within anine-by-nine area, though you canwalk around with the hoseto increase the amount of coverage you can get.
Small And Large Sprinklers
The Small and Large Sprinklers allow you toautomatically water and dispense Fertilizerto your crops, but in return, they take moreadvanced materialsand theirdrawings cost more.

After being placed, either typeof Sprinkler willautomatically water any dry crops once per day. You can alsointeract with themwhile holdingany of the four Fertilizer typesto add them to its inventory, and they’llautomatically distribute them to cropswithin their range as needed.
How To Make And Use Fertilizer
Any type oftree or naturally regrowing cropyou plant will alwaysrequire Fertilizerwhile it’sgrowing and after being harvested, or else itsgrowth will stall.
When a crop needs fertilizer, itloses its bright color, and you’ll get a small symbol indicating the type of fertilizer needed above your headwhen getting near it.
Fertilizer ismade in a Kilnfrom one of thefour wood types– Farm, Forest, Mountain, or Jungle. Each oneproduces its respective type, and they’reused on cropsconsidered to befrom that region, such as Orange Trees needing Farm Fertilizer.
To apply fertilizer to a plant, approach the crop when its coloring is fadedwhile having the correcttype of fertilizer in your inventory, and theninteract with it. Your character willsprinkle some onto the crop, and it will be rejuvenated, allowing it tocontinue growing.
You can put Pigs into a Pig Pen and feed them Hay from a Feeding Trough to have themproduce a few pieces of random Fertilizer each day, as well as Ginger.

How To Remove Beetles And Weeds
Each day, all your crops have achance to grow weedson them orattract beetles, both of which willstop the crop’s growth, and in thecase of weeds, will also begin toruin your tilled soil.
When this happens, go over andinteract with the affected plant. This will eitherremove the weedsfrom it orsquash the beetles, and return the plant to its healthy state so it cancontinue growing.
You can alsocatch Beetles with your Bug Net and use them as a food source for Chickens or as Baitforcatching Farm fish.
How To Automate Weed And Beetle Removal
If you want toautomatically remove weeds or beetles, you’ll need to haveRabbits and Chickens, along with either aRabbit Hutch or a Chicken Coop, near or inside thearea where you’re growing crops.
When around any crops,Rabbits eat any weedsthat grow on them, whileChickens feed on beetlesthat arrive, and youwon’t need to feed them Hayto make them do it, asfeeding themonly makes themproduce their respective material.

Having at leasttwo of each around your cropsmeans they’ll constantlytend to your fieldas long as they aren’t asleep, and youwon’t need to manually remove themanymore.
You canpick up any type of farm animal with your Bug Netto relocate them without breaking down their pen.
Both Rabbits and Chickensdon’t need to be enclosedin a field of crops to tend to them, butputting them into an enclosuremakes themstay close to their home penandnavigate to nearby cropson their own. If youdon’t keep them properly fencedin, they’ll beexposed to dangerin the form ofwild foxes.
How To Protect Chickens And Rabbits
Wild Foxes periodically appear and willattempt to hunt down your Rabbits and Chickens, even if they’re protected by a fence, and will frighten them, disrupting their ability to tend crops, and they’llstay inside their penuntil thefox is chased away.
Foxes will circle a Rabbit Hutch or Chicken Coop surrounded by fences, but theywon’t be able to get in unless there’s a gap in the fence.
Topermanently keep Wild Foxes awayfrom them, you’ll need to have apen with Goats near your enclosed Rabbits and Chickens, or just keep allthree types of animals in the same enclosure.

How To Pollinate Crops
Certainlate-game crops, such as Pumpkins and Mango Trees, require an additional mechanicto groweven if they also need Fertilizer, and that’s beingpollinated by bees. Crops that need pollination include:
Toget them or any croppollinated, you’ll need tohave them within range of a Beehive. Each Beehive covers anine-by-nine tile area, and each day they’llautomatically pollinate any cropswithin that range andkeep them growing if they require it.
As long as the bees haveat least one crop near them, they’ll also produceone Honey per day per Hive, and these can besold for 250 Gold eachat any shop in town, giving you an additionalsource of income regardless of profession.

How To Find Queen Bees
Queen Bees arefound randomly while exploringforested areasin any region, or afterchopping down a large number of treesaround you.
Once you find a single Queen Bee,more can be purchased from the Farmer’s Shop for 7,000 Gold each, and you’re able to buy five per day.
Theymake a loud buzzing noiseas long as you’re near them, and unlike other Critters, theydon’t disappearunless yougo into a cave or exit a regioncompletely.
Use yourBug Net to catch them, and each one isused to make a single Beehive, which generates a full hive to pollinate any nearby flowerswithout needing to be fed or given a type of fuel.
