Atylssis an RPG that features several dungeons with optional bosses that you may defeat to gain exponential rewards. However, defeating some of these bosses can be incredibly difficult if you’re not well-prepared for it, and you will have to spend some time making proper preparations to defeat them.
The Colossus is an optional boss, created by the Carbuncle brothers, that can give you a tough time even if you’re a few levels ahead of it. The gigantic boss has some tricky attacks in its arsenal that can be challenging to deal with. Regardless, the rewards the boss offers in defeat are all worth the time and effort put into fighting against it.
How To Find The Colossus
Colossus can be found at theend of the Crescent Grove dungeon. Fighting against this boss iscompletely optionaland defeating it isn’t required to complete the dungeon sweep quest given by Angela inside the Sanctum.
You will find apurple portal in the middle of a small chamberafter completing all the challenges inside the Crescent Grove Dungeon. You can also take the smaller white portal just beside the purple portal to teleport to Crescent Keep, just outside the Crescent Grove dungeon, but you’ll have toclear the dungeon againif you want to fight against the Colossus.
Colossus Boss Battle Preparations
While you canaccess the Crescent Grove Dungeonafter reaching level 15, it is recommended towait until you’re at level 18to fight against this boss. The Colossus has 45 physical armor and 40 magic armor, alongside a ton of HP, so if you haveany class skills that reduce armor, you should use it to deal more damage.
You should also invest some stat points in Vitality to ensure you have at least 100 HP, which will allow you to endure at least one direct hit from this boss without dying. You can alsotry to find good equipment pieces and weapons inside the dungeonand equip them before heading into the fight.
Healing consumables, such as a Bunjar, can also be useful during the later phases of the fight whereyou will need instantaneous healing if you get hit. Furthermore, single-target skills that deal a chunk of damage may also be of use during this boss battle.
Colossus Moveset
The Colossus has devastating close and mid-range attacks, and staying in its face is difficult becausethe gigantic boss doesn’t fit on the entire screen, and it may be troublesome to predict when an attack is coming. The attacks only become more desperate as the boss is low on HP.
How To Counter
Shockwave Slam
The Colossus' eye will glow red, and the boss will smash the ground, unleashing a powerful shockwave.
This attack has different properties, depending on how far you are from the boss. If you’re in its face, the attack will knock you away. If you’re mid-range, you will not only bounce away from the boss but might also bump into the spires that form as the result of this attack, which might kill you in one hit. At long range, you will have to watch out for the erupting spires and avoid walking into them.
At close range, if you’ve got the timing right and can spot the glowing eye, you canparry it to avoid all damage. If you keep holding back, you’ll be at least able to block the attack.
At mid-range, keep holding block, and if you’re far away, you’ll avoid the shockwave but move while holding the block button toavoid accidentally bumping into the spires.
Giant Clap
Similar to the first attack, the boss' eye will glow red, and it will clap its hands together over your head, dealing significant damage and knocking you away.
If you’re at a distance, the boss will teleport to you before attacking you.
Wait for the eye to glow andstart spamming the block button. The timing is a little different from the shockwave slam, so getting it right may be difficult.
At long range, it’s better tohold the block buttonto at least negate the damage instead of attempting to parry.
Giant Laser
This is a long-range attack, but fairly easy to predict, because the boss will get on all of its limbs on the ground. The Colossus' eye will also glow before this attack comes out.
Prepare for this attackwhen you see the boss hugging the groundand its eye starts to glow. The boss will not hesitate to use this attack at close range, but they’ll mostly use it when you’re much further away.
Keep holding the block button until the attack comes out to defend against it.Trying to dodge or parry this attack isn’t very rewarding, so it’s best to focus on blocking the attack. Sometimes the character may slip under the Colossus while it’s trying to use this attack. You have to keep holding the block button even if you’re sure the laser won’t hit you.
Shockwave Slam Combo
Once the Colossus is down to 50% HP, it will start using this attack twice in quick succession.
When the boss' HP is lower than 25%, it will use the Shockwave Slam three times repeatedly.
Once the boss starts using this attack, you have tostop everything and focus on perfectly parrying each hit. If you decide to block the entire volley, your block will be shattered, and you might get hit. Dodging also isn’t an option because the range of this attack is huge.
How To Defeat The Colossus
When you enter the boss arena for the first time, you will find the Colossus collapsed on the ground; approaching the boss will awaken it, and you’ll be able to fight against it. Just like the other golem-type enemies you’ve encountered so far, the Colossus won’t flinch at all due to your attacks.
Colossus will test your patience, and you have to be prepared for it. You cannot attack this boss out of turn. Fortunately, most of its moves are slow, so you can get plenty of swings while the boss prepares to launch the attack.
During the early half of the fight, it’s best tostay in its face and parry or block whatever attack it throws at youwhile dealing consistent melee damage. If you’re playing a range character, make sure you’re always out of the range of the Shockwave Slam.
The Carbuncle Brothers, Stezza and Alshar, will join the battle once the Colossus hits 50% HP. These brothers will throw magical projectiles at you, and paired with the Giant Laser attack of the Colossus, it can be a tough challenge to focus on either of the enemies.
It is recommended that you try tofinish the Carbuncle Brothers as soon as possiblebecause they don’t have a lot of HP. You have to keep an eye out for the Giant Laser attack while dealing with the brothers.
Unlike other boss fights so far, if you manage to bring down Colossus' HP by half and die, you can go back to the boss battle arena and the fight will resume with the boss having lost a quarter of its HP. Similarly, if you’ve brought down the boss to its last quarter HP, the fight will resume with the Colossus only having half of its HP.
During the last phase of the fight, you have torespect the Shockwave Slamand focus on parrying it perfectly. Let the boss finish its attack before you begin your retaliation. Other than that, keep consistently attacking the Colossus while staying close to it, and you’ll eventually come out victorious.
Rewards For Defeating The Colossus
Defeating the Colossus gives you around450 EXP and approximately 500 Crowns. If you have takenEnok’s questto slay the Colossus, you can get an additional 2500 Crowns, over 3000 EXP, and the Valor Ring.
Furthermore, the boss also drops a large chest in defeat, which may contain a single piece of equipment or a weapon. Note that whatever this item or equipment is, it will require you to beat least level 20 or higher to equip it. If you may comfortably defeat this boss, you should try defeating it many times for the sake of these weapons and equipment.
