After entering Act 2 ofFantasian Neo Dimension, the world suddenly feels so much larger than it was before. you may go wherever you want, there are collectibles spread across the world, and you can regain your companions whenever it suits you best.

And then there are some quests that appear seemingly randomly, disconnected from the main story. Echoes of the Sandsea is one such quest, and tasks you with surviving a time anomaly and battling the vestiges of what seems to you as a long-lost god.

How To Start Echoes Of The Sandsea

You’re never strictly told of this quest existing. Rather, you just have to stumble upon it. That said, it’s not exactly easy to miss.A giant blue orb will appear over the ravine in the Sandsea, and interacting with it will start the Echoes of the Sandsea mission.

Zinikr is an essential part of this quest, so you need to haverescued him from the Frozen Tundrabefore this quest will appear. With that covered, head on into this mysterious blue orb, which just so happens to be frozen in time.

Finding Every Voice Crystal

After entering this little time anomaly, you are asked toexplore the Uzra in search of Voice Crystalsleft behind by Yim, the sister of Taros in a previous life. You need to find all of them, so they’re not exceptionally hidden, though it’s easy to get thrown off course with the size of the Uzra.

Warping is disabled while in the time anomaly, though you cango to the wheel of the Uzra to leaveif you want.

The first Voice Crystal isfound right at the beginningin the Bridge. The next is found right after exiting the Bridge, beside the stairs. After this, you will findone in Cheryl’s roomon the Uzra, followed by a final one in thevery last room of the Engine. Nice and easy, and you’re loaded up on a lot more lore now, too.

After this, amuch larger Voice Crystal than usual will appear in the main engine room. Here’s where you’ll face Yim herself, or whatever is left of her. This is one of the more difficult fights in the game, so prep yourself appropriately.

Battling Shadow of Yim

Party Set-Up

By time we chose to battle the Shadow of Yim, we had the entire party rescued, though the core members we used during this fight wereLeo, Zinikr, Tan, Ez, and Valrika. Cheryl was used in some scenarios for the wide reach of Knight Impact, though this isn’t necessary.

Here are someskills to get from the Growth Mapbefore taking on this battle:

Yim has no single element she uses, nor any particular weaknesses either. As such,Rubies and Emeraldsare a surefire path to success. She has a move later in the battle, Nihil Despair, where she casts bothSeal and Curse on the whole party. Having a Moss and Phantom Quartz on certain characters, such as Valrika or Kina, is incredibly helpful so they can keep using magic and heal the party.

Tan will be our main damage dealerfor this battle, as he can dole out some serious damage with enough build-up, and his Sleight of Hand passive skill gives him a much higher chance of getting to buff himself and attack in the same turn.

How To Defeat Shadow Of Yim

Yim is a tricky boss because she has the strength and HP of a regular boss, but she throws in some moves that feel more like a puzzle. She’s somewhat unpredictable, so you have to constantly be on your toes while facing her.

To start off with, she will attack with elemental attacks. This will either attack a single party member, or all of them. The order is random, and the element she uses will constantly alternate. These are all powerful, though manageable.

After a while, she will use a move calledNihil Summoning. This has her summon a horde of Demi Sandphins, who also have much more HP than your typical Sandphin. Their attacks aren’t what you need to worry about. It’s Yim’s follow-up attack, Nihil Calamity. This summons a void that absorbs any remaining enemies andfires them back at you for massive damage.

If even a single one is absorbed, this attack’s power is dramatically increased, and the whole host of them wouldeasily wipe the party. Even if you’re defeated all of the Sandphin, Yim will still perform this attack, though it will be much weaker.

To survive this, you’ll first want to use eitherCheryl or Valrika to slow Yim to give you a few extra turns, and then use Quick All with Ez to speed up the party. You’ll need as many turns as possible. Adolfo Slash and Impact are helpful, as are any of your typical piercing moves. Arrow rain in particular is helpful here.Prioritise defeating the Sandphinover damaging Yim.

Later in the fight, she will useNihil Despair. This casts both Curse and Seal on the party, blocking the usage of magic and any buffs. This is why it’s so important to have a character immune to this.

One of Yim’s most terrifying moves is Distortion of Reality. For this, she will create duplicates of herself and move rapidly to mix them up.Attacking the wrong one will cause it to explode, dealing a massive amount of damage. She will also perform a move called Reset before this that removes any debuffs on her.

With one exception - Taunt. This will remain on Yim even after she has reset and duplicated, letting you pick her out immediately. Try to keep her taunted with Zinikr at all times so that you can easily avoid this phase.

Near the end of her HP, she will performNihil Rampage, which allows her to perform two moves in a single turn. It’s pretty devastating, though she is still mostly manageable as she doesn’t change her pattern otherwise. After you finally have her defeated, Zinikr’s Divine Artefact will be upgraded, and you are free to pass into the mecha infestation north of Vence.
