Atlyssallows you and your friends to conquer dungeons and defeat the evil within them. Some of these dungeons have an optional boss who is far stronger than every other enemy that you have encountered inside the dungeon.
Defeating such a strong enemy often requires careful preparation, patience, skill, and knowledge. Lord Kaluuz is the final boss of the Sanctum Catacombs and is far stronger and more annoying than Lord Zuulneruda. However, once you’ve figured out how to deal with this boss, you’ll be fighting it repeatedly for the amount of experience that you can get from it.
Where To Find Lord Kaluuz
Lord Kaluuz can be found inside the third andfinal stage dungeon of Sanctum Catacombs, which can only be unlocked after you’ve hit level 12. It isan optional repeatable boss, and you don’t have to defeat it to clear the dungeon.
The Sanctum Catacombs can be accessed through the world portal inside Angela’s abode inside the Sanctum.
While the layout may change every time you enter a dungeon, you will always find Lord Kaluuz by traveling through thelarge purple portal in the middle of a small chamberinside the dungeon, which can be found after clearing every challenge.
Lord Kaluuz Boss Battle Preparations
Lord Kaluuz is amuch stronger version of Lord Zuulneruda, who you might have encountered at the end of the second stage of the Sanctum Catacombs. The two share several similar attacks and use the same strategy where they wouldcall regular dungeon enemies to make the fight more difficultfor you.
This is a level 18 boss, and it is recommended that you’reat least level 16before attempting to fight Lord Kaluuz. You should also be able to comfortably defeat any enemy that you’ve encountered in the third stage of the Sanctum Catacombs because you’ll be fighting them alongside the boss.
Bring tons of healing consumables, such as the Bunjar, because the enemies in this dungeon can hit hard and some of them, such as the Miasma, can deal damage over time. You should alsoinvest some skill points in class skills that can deal damage in an area, because that will be the key in this fight.
Lord Kaluuz Moveset
Lord Kaluuz mostly relies on ranged attacks, but can also hit incredibly hard with its fists at melee range. UnlikeLord Zuulneruda, this boss also attacks a lot more frequently, giving you less time to recover stamina from all that dashing and blocking.
How To Counter
4x Cage
Lord Kaluuz will throw out a cage that multiplies andspreads out to the boss' four directions. These cages will become slightly larger after traveling some distance away from the boss and will stay there for a while.
If you’re at some distance, you can avoid this attack by moving out of the way. You should alsoavoid dashing into these cagesbecause if you touch them, you will take damage.
If you’re in melee range, you canparry the initial attackfrom the boss where it brings its hands forward to cast the cage spell. But, you shouldkeep holding the block buttonbecause even if the parry is successful, the cage will still come out and if you’re not blocking, you will get hit.
3x Orb Attack
The boss will retreat a short distance, manifesting three orbs over its head, which it then shoots down in your direction. Once these orbs hit the ground, they explode and will continue to deal damage for a very short duration.
Running away is not enough to avoid this attack. The orbs are too fast and will clip you in most cases. You may try using dashes, but you have to be careful asthe arena is full of rocks and obstacles that might block your dash. Jumping and dashing may also work to avoid these orbs.
Youcan also block the entire attack by holding the block button, but you have to watch your stamina because blocking this attack can completely drain it out, leaving you vulnerable to the boss' next attack.
Double Punch
The boss willthrow a punch, one after the other, at melee range. The attacks deal a considerable amount of damage and can easily kill you if your Vitality stat isn’t high enough.
If youparry the first attack, the second one won’t come out. This attack has a very short range and can easily be avoided by dashing to the back.
Big Mouth Wave
Lord Kaluuz will shoot a long-rangebeam out of its mouth. The boss usually uses this attack after it fades out and shows up again at a random part of the arena. The attack is slow, and the boss takes a little more than a second to charge this attack.
This attack is difficult to predict because you don’t know where the boss will reappear. One way to do this easily is byusing the sound cue.
The boss makes a unique sound whenever it’s about to attack, so if you hear this sound after the boss disappears, dash in any direction, and you may avoid this attack.
How To Defeat Lord Kaluuz
As the fight begins, your first priority should be to get as close to the boss as possible. Lord Kaluuz is much less of a threat without its 3x Orb Attack, and that’s something the boss loves to use at long range. At melee range, you will have to worry about the double punch and the cage attack.
At times, the boss may occasionally retreat and use the orb attack, and you have to try your best to avoid it and close the distance as fast as possible. Once you’vetaken out half of its HP, the boss will disappear and willsummon either Poltergeists or Miasmas to join it in the battle.
From here onwards, you have to keep running away anduse long-range or area-wide attacks to kill these other enemies. These enemies will continue to spawn at random intervals, and you have to make sure you deal enough damage to the boss during what little time you get against it one-on-one.
If you have the initial skill, Sturdy, you may activate it as you jump on the boss to start your offense. The skill auto-parries all attacks for a short duration, so you won’t have to worry about getting damaged by other enemies and can focus easily on the boss. Retreat when the duration of Sturdy is about to end.
Stay close to the boss while also trying to get rid of the smaller enemies, and you will eventually be able to deplete its entire HP bar. Once the boss dies, if there are any other enemies in the arena, they will also immediately die.
Rewards For Defeating Lord Kaluuz
Defeating Lord Kaluuz will grant you about 300 crowns and approximately 2000 experience and alarge chestwill spawn in the middle of the arena that might include a decent piece of equipment. The boost in experience can help you hit the next level quickly, preparing you for what’s to come beyond the Crescent Keep.
