How To Defeat Dularn, The Tragic Loyalist In Ys Memoire: The Oath In Felghana

While this encounter is substantially more challenging than the first time, it stillfollows a similar pattern but has several curveballs tossed into the mixthat will constantly keep you on your toes and willpunish you if you make the slightest mistake, making this more of an endurance test than anything.

Throughout this encounter, you mustbe quick, make snap decisions, and will have to hit him every single time he exposes himself,or yourisk throwing the runand will likely have to start over. While there issome room for error, there isn’t much, so you best be on the ball if you want any hope of emerging the victor!

Dularn - Six Sword Attack

As you likely remember from your first encounter with Dularn, hesummons an impenetrable Barrier around himselfandlaunches a series of Gold Sword attacks, forcing you to dodge them before getting the opportunity to attack him. HisSix Swordattack isone of the threehe will use in this battle.

He willsummon three pairs of Gold Swordsbefore launching them at Adol withheat-seeking properties, forcing you torun to the left or right and Double Jump at the right moment to avoid themaltogether. You’re likely fine if one or two hit you, but don’t make it a habit!

Dularn - Eight Sword Attack

Another one of his Gold Sword attacks is hisEight Swordattack, summoningtwo Gold Sword at each cardinal directionbefore letting them loose, having themsporadically zip around the arenatoward Adol. These can be very tricky to evade, so be on high alert.

These Gold Swords willessentially swim around you briefly, forcing you tojump into open spaces and then jump again to evade themonce more before they fly away. They flow through the air like they’re surfing, making their movements hard to pin down and adapt to. Justtry jumping away from them, and thenDouble Jump back toward them to clear them!

Dularn - Ten Sword Attack

Thelast of the Gold Sword attacksis Dularn’sTen Swordattack, which has himlaunch two rows of five Gold Swordsstraight aheadin aspread-outpattern, making themnearly impossible to sidestep. And this attack comes outFAST,so you willbarely have much time to reactto it.

Fortunately, there aretwo ways you can evade theseGold Swords. There will begaps between each Sword, allowing you toquickly try running between themto avoid damage. Alternatively, you canperform a delayed Double Jumpandleap over the first row normally, wait a brief second, and use your Double Jump to clear the secondrow. It’s harder to pull off, but we think it’s the best strategy!

Adol - Attack When Barrier Is Down

Like the first time you faced Dularn, after he performs three Gold Sword attacks in a row, hisBarrier will deactivate, enabling you torun up to him and land several attacks, carving away at his health. There’sno set patternfor which Gold Sword attacks he will use, buthe will always only do three before his Barrier gets removed.

For example hecan do two Eight Sword attacks and one Ten Sword attackorone Eight Sword Attack and two Six Sword attacks. He may never even do one of the attacks throughout the entire encounter. It’sall a game of chance, and youmust adapt to whichever ones he decides to usefor his three attacks!

Dularn - One Clone

After attacking Dularn when his Barrier is down, and heruns through his Gold Sword attacks again, hisBarrier will deactivateagain, but he willsuddenly vanish from the arena, appearing briefly later alongside a Clone. The Clone will be adeep purple colorand will toss out asizeable crescent-shaped attack.

Luckily,Dularn will look the sameas before, making himeasy to spot. However, he will toss out aFire Wall attack, hurling fireballs in a group that gradually spreads out as they travel further. As soon asDularn reappears, locate him, and then Double Jump toward himto clear his magic andattack himfor massive damage!

Dularn - Two Clones

Evading his Gold Sword attacks againwill haveDularn teleport out of the arenaand then back in again withan additional Clonethis time around, withboth Clones tossing out the sizable crescent-shaped attack, covering a decent chunk of the arena.

Stand near the centerof the arena every time Dularn disappears, as it will make spotting him easier. Themoment he comes backinto the arena,Double Jump at him and begin attacking. If you have yourDouble Boostready, let it rip to recover health and deal massive damage to him!

Dularn - Three Clones

Go throughanother rotation of his Gold Sword attacksand wait for him toteleport away and back inagain, for Dularn to bring inthree Clonesthis time around, which is where things start to get pretty serious. Before, you could sort of ignore them as long as you Double Jumped, but now yourstrategy has to change slightly.

When Dularn reappears, stay in the center briefly, delaying your Double Jump tohave the large crescent-shaped attacks get closeto you.Right before they hityou, perform aDouble Jump toward Dularnandbegin attackinghim. Since theClones are facing away from Dularn, they will miss youcompletely, allowing you to attack him!

Dularn - Five Clones

You guessed it: Dularn willrun through his same rigamarole againwith aslight tempo increaseand blink out of the arena and back in. However, instead of four Clones, he will havefive Clones, which makes thingssubstantially more challengingthan it needs to be.

Stand in the center of the arenaas always, and themoment yousee Dularn appear, move to the left or rightto have theClones throw their crescent-shaped attacks slightly away from Dularn. As they approach you,Double Jump toward Dularnandbegin attackinghim for big damage!

Dularn - Lasers And Clones

Finally, thelast trickup Dularns sleeves…Lasers!Wait, what? Yup, he willsummon two lasers into the arenathat make thingsextremely chaotic. He will only put these into play whenhis health is at critical levels, meaning you have him on his back foot.

The good news is thatthese lasers are extremely visible and show their trajectory well before they fire, allowing you to get out of their way. Unfortunately, youmust evade his Gold Swords on top of thesenew lasers anddodge the Clone’s attacksbefore you can attack him.

YourDouble Boost should almost be backby now, so let it build up,get to the Clone phase, and let it rockto land the finishing blow on Dularn. This phase is no joke, but if you made it this far, you should be more than ready to end things here and now!
