There are dozens of bosses inPath of Exile 2, with many being pretty challenging. Once you make it to the Cemetery of the Eternals in Act One, you’ll have the chance to face a pair of bosses; Asinia and Draven. In order to complete The Mysterious Shade, you’ll need to take on both of these bosses and snag their keys.
Praetor Draven is relatively low-level, but if you are new to Path of Exile, he can be a bit challenging to take on. This will include where to find this boss, as well as some tips to help defeat him. you’re able to defeat him either before or after Asinia; the order of defeat does not matter.
Where To Find Draven
Draven is found in theMausoleum of the Praetor, which can be entered fromthe Cemetery of the Eternals. When you reach this area,be sure to speak with Lachlann, who will give you the quest Sorrow Among Stones. This tasks you withfinding and defeating both Draven and Asinia.
Once you enter the Mausoleum, you’ll need tosearch around until you find Draven’s boss arena. As with other bosses in the game, there will be acheckpoint directly outside of the area. After you enter the area,Draven’s spirit will fly in and break the center hatch.
How To Prepare For Draven
Fighting Draven isn’t the hardest task, butit’s still good to be prepared. At this point of the game, you should just be getting magic (blue) gear for each slot. If you are missing a piece of gear,be sure to either buy some or defeat enemies to loot it.
We didn’t have a belt for this battle, but that’s okay. Overall,we found the fight against Draven easier than the one against Asinia. If you’ve already defeated Asinia at this point, you should be able to take on the Praetor himself with no problem.
If you have any unspent passive skill points, don’t forget to invest them! You’ll get one point every time you level up; this is an early-game boss, so you probably won’t have the most amount of passives, butbe sure to use all of the points you are rewarded with.
What Moves Does Draven Use?
With the fight against Draven drawing near, let’s look atthe attacks that he uses.
Melee Sword Attacks
Draven will swing his sword and deal damage.
If you keep your distance, these are very easy to avoid.
Fanning Projectiles
Draven will send out projectiles in a fan, similar to Asinia.
This is another easy attack to avoid, especially if you just run away.
Aid From Asinia
Draven will summon Asinia to summon AoE circles on the ground.
These AoEs will appear in quick succession. When they happen, just run away; don’t try to attack during this phase. Asinia does this attack during her own battle after calling out ‘Rite of the Fourth Moon’.
Melee Weapon Slam
Draven will slam his weapon down, causing a line of effect, as well as a wave of damage on either side.
Overall, you want to avoid this main ‘line’. When the waves fan out from it, run and dodge-roll away to avoid taking any more damage.
How To Defeat Draven
Dravendoesn’t seem to have as many attacks as Asinia, but they can be heavy-hitting. The best strategy here is to justkeep a distance to avoid melee attacks and attack with ranged skills.Draven willfollow you as you move around,so stationary AoEs may not be effective, butyou can get him to walk through them to take damage.
If you are taking on Draven first (out of the two bosses for this portion of the quest), this isgood practice to get a hang of Asinia’s AoEs and projectiles. If you’ve already defeated her, then much of the same strategy applies.Draven does not have a trapping attack,so you don’t need to worry about getting stuck.
If you do happen to die during this fight, don’t worry! You willrespawn at the checkpoint right next to the entrance of the arena, allowing you to immediately jump back in. Use the previous experience as a lesson for how to successfully beat him.
After Draven has been defeated, don’t forget to pick up his key and head through the portal back to the cemetery.
