Each major area inTails Of Iron 2: Whiskers Of Winteroffers a set of Beast Hunts that pit you against the creatures native to those lands. These Beast Hunts are often briefly teased while you progress through the main story quests in a given area, as you’ll encounter the monsters who often flee while you’re in the midst of a main quest.
However, if you want to finish the job and claim the various crafting materials that these monsters can offer, you’ll need to engage in Beast Hunts. These side quests unfold in three major sections: gathering information, encountering the beast, and hunting it down across the land, often chasing them to their lair.
How To Start Fear The Sky
Return toThe Elder at Mossbug Farm in the Outskirtsto take on another Beast Hunt, this time against a Bird Beast. The Elder will direct you to the rightmost section of The Outskirts.
Fast travel to Highland Viewto save time, or dash to the right, and you’ll be there in a flash.
Once you arrive, you’ll spot a merchant selling goods, including a Polished Dark Wing Gun, which does ice damage – perfect to counter the Bird Beast’s weakness.
The Bird Beast is weak against both ice and electric,so equip Arlo appropriately to capitalize on those vulnerabilities.
How To Defeat The Bird Beast
Step forward and a dead farmer will fall from the sky, followed by the fearsomeBird Beast,which roars and attacks.
You’ll need tofocus on ranged attacks here,as the Bird Beast typically keeps to the skies, swooping down to employ sweeping attacks against you.
Once you injure the Bird Beast bydepleting about 25-33 percent of its HP, it will fleeto the right, where you’ll have to follow it.
If you have already completed The Root of the Problem, you’re in luck as you canfast-travel to the Abandoned Shackand skip the long journey to the upper left section of The Outskirts.
How To Beat The Bird Beast Phase Two
From the Abandoned Shack, head left, and you’ll encounter the Bird Beast for phase two, with thesame HP you left it at.It will roar and take to the skies again, requiring you to hit it withranged shots again.
Watch for the red glow on the ground that telegraphs a diving attack from the Bird Beast, andavoid its follow-ups until it lands.
Block the ranged shots with your shield andavoid its pecking attack that deals fire damage and can set Arlo on fire,requiring the use of an Antidote or repeated button presses to break out of it.
Once you’ve depleted more of its HP until a third remains, theBird Beast will flee again,this time to the top right section of the map. Head there now.
How To Beat The Bird Beast Phase Three
When youarrive at the Ruins of Long Fang Castle,you’ll spot the merchant again and can replenish your health potion via a nearby barrel.
Once you’re ready, head right anddeal with the Bird Beast Chicksbefore ascending the ladder to face the Bird Beast.
Defeat two more chickswhile a farmer cowers in the background, then turn your attention to the Bird Beast.
Avoid the egg bombsthe bird drops, then attack it as soon as it lands to inflict as much damage as possible.
Avoid the peck attacks and fire residueon the ground again, and soon you’ll defeat the Bird Beast after a few opportunities to hit it while it’s grounded.
