Dragons are cool. Dracoliches are cooler. Which means the Dragon of Dirge boss inWuthering Wavesisreallycool. It’s also one of the more brutal fights that arrived with the 2.0 update, with some interesting narrative bits tacked on. Between the dragon’s damage output, arena-spanning attacks, and health pool, unprepared players will find themselves getting the short end of a long claw.
That’s why knowing what the Dragon of Dirge can do and the best ways to deal with it is essential. From how to counter his attacks to the best party composition and boss battle tips, here’s everything you need to know to defeat the Dragon of Dirge.
All Dragon Of Dirge Attacks
The Dragon of Dirge, real nameGehinnom, is unusual among the RInacita bosses in that itlacks a second phase, content as it is with a selection of powerful attacks that can and will delete characters given half a chance.
Therefore, His attack list is a bit shorter than the others, but it remains a challenge just the same.
Roar of Falling Fire
No
A possible opener for the Dragon, this attack sees it roar and call downgouts of green fire in an area centered on you. The firedoesn’t stop falling until he stops roaring.
Spam dodge or get out of the area of effect to deal with this attack.
Charge
As simple as it sounds, this attack sees the Dragon rear up and thencharge directly at you, crossing a good 50-60 percent of the arena doing so.
Dodge to the right or leftor run out of the way in the same direction (s).
Triple Lasers
The Dragon summons three energy spheres in front of itself, thenshoots three large lasers that converge in a scissor motion. The attack sometimesleaves behind a series of spikesin its wake.
Your best bet is tostand roughly at the center of the three lasers so you can dodgewhere all three intersect. If that’s not possible, you’ll need to dodge multiple times.
Double Claw Scrape and Thorns
With a swipe of its claws against the arena floor, the Dragon sends out anarc of rocky spikes and carves a gash into the groundin front of itself. It thendoes the attack again, going in the other direction.
If you canget behind or to the side of the Dragon, it’s easier to avoid this attack, or you can dodge just as the spikes are about to hit you.
Dive into Thorns
Yes (Dive), No (thorns)
After briefly flying into the air, the Dragon swoops down in a dive to hit you, then turns around anduses its wings to throw bone shardsat you.
You canparry the dive to knock the Dragon out of the skyor simply dodge both attacks just as they’re about to land.
Slam and Spikes
The Dragon slams one of its claws into the ground, causing asmall explosion. Shortly after, severalspikes shoot from the ground, lingering for a few seconds.
If you see this attack coming by watching theDragon’s front left claw rise, you can safely run out of the wayof both the slam and the spikes. Dodging both works fine as well.
Fire Breath
No dragon is complete without a breath attack, and the Dragon of Dirge is no different. Itspews fire from right to leftto a fair distance.
You can avoid the fire by spamming dodge or simply running far enough away that the fire cannot reach you.
Five Hit Combo
The Dragon rears up and opens its mouth wide before doing afive-hit combo consisting of a bite, a slam with a small spike explosion, a swipethat throws thorns, raking up the ground of the arena and making a cone of spikes, and a final slam that creates an initial and then larger follow-up explosion.
This combo has a lot of forward momentum, and the Dragon turns to hit you, meaning you’ll need to time your dodges well. If you canget behind the dragon at the end of the combo, you’re able to avoid some strikes.
The Dragon summonsthree spinning sawblades that chase you down.
The blades have good tracking, so you’ll need to be quick on the dodge ormove at a 45-degree angleto the left or right to avoid them without a dodge.
Falling Lasers
The Dragon flies up in the air and summons multiplepoints of energy, thenfires them at you.
The energy bolts have significant tracking and come in large groups, so you’ll need to dodge while moving side to side to avoid them.
Tips For Beating The Dragon Of Dirge
The first and most important thing to do when fighting the Dragon of Dirge isnot to underestimate the damage of any of its attacks. What seems like the weakest strike can quickly put a character at half health. That goes double for its combos and larger attacks.
Many of the Dragon of Dirge’s attacks have at leastsome recovery when the animation ends, so use these times torecover your stamina or start a new DPS rotation.
The threat its attacks pose aside, one of the best parts of the fight against the Dragon is how easy it is to dodge its attacks. Rather than having significatn delays or other tricks, you’re able to sight-dodge everything the Dragon can throw at you.
Put another way, if you think you can see the dodge timing in the attack, you probably can. Spamming dodge is also effective against some of the Dragon’s longer AoE attacks.
Best Characters To Beat The Dragon Of Dirge
The Dragon of Dirge isheavily resistant to Fusion damage, ruling out any characters of that element (unless they’re well-built). There are, thankfully, a host of characters better suited to defeating it.
Carlotta
Main DPS
To say Carlotta trivializes most of the 2.0 update content is to understate her influence, but between her mobility, damage output, and general utility, the Dragon would have no chance.
Jinhsi
As of 2.0, there are almost no major bosses in Wuthering Waves Jinhsican’tobliterate. The Dragon is the same, and who doesn’t want to see two dragons duke it out from time to time?
Havoc Rover
Havoc Rover is surprisingly potent for a free unit, more so with 2.0, as they can unlock their S5 upgrade during the story. With solid burst damage, maneuverability, and being easy to build, you can’t go wrong for having not paid a dime for them.
Zhezhi
Sub-DPS
Between Carlotta and Jinhsi, Zhezhi cemented herself as the premier sub-dps and buffing character in the game as of 2.0. Her buffs are incredible, her supplemental damage respectable, and she’s generally just good to have around.
Sanhua
Sanhua was one of the best characters in the game with the launch of Wuthering Waves and held that title into 2.0, providing a few buffs, good damage, and general utility.
Yinlin
Distance from her release did little to Yinlin’s effectiveness in the right team, and against the Dragon of Dirge, she can bring sustained Electro damage that easily supplements most DPS units.
Shorekeeper
Support
Shorekeeper’s buffs and healing capabilities are outstanding, outshining all others in the period following her release, and maintaining that crown for long after.
Verina
Verina was the tiny queen of Support units at the launch of the game, and her healing and buffs are a more than valuable addition to any team, no matter how far along your account is.
