One of the few mutants inStalker 2: Heart of Chornobylthat doesn’t rush up to you to attack, the poltergeist is one of the more subtle monsters in the Zone. If you consider being hit upside the head with a metal barrel to be subtle. This supernatural creature utilizes gravitational energy to pick up large objects around the environment, throwing them at you with near-lethal force.
At the same time, it’s nearly invisible, flying around the room as nothing more than a wavey form in the air. How are you supposed to deal with that? Fortunately, we have everything you need to know to make the poltergeist one of, if not the easiest mutants to dispatch safely. It might just require some patience.
How To Identify A Poltergeist
Due totheir invisibility, you can be in the same area as a poltergeist and not realize it until its already taken away half your health. Here’s some advice for knowing when you have one nearby.
First, listen.Poltergeists make a constant whirling windy breathy sound, especially as you grow closer. They prefer to stay between you and a solid object, maintaining cover, so more times than not, you’ll hear it before you see it.
This can be confirmed furtherif you see any floating objects. Sure, that might be the Zone doing its thing, but ifthe object violently shoots in your direction, it’s a poltergeist.
Lastly, the visual: When alive,a poltergeist looks like a warbling mass of air with no solid form. It’s about four feet wide and circular. When stationary, you might also see a constant flow of pebbles on the ground below it.
How To Kill A Poltergeist
Now that you’ve found one, here’s how to beat it. Withsome patience and constant pressureapplied to the mutant, you should be able to defeat itwithout ever taking damage.
Watch Out For Objects
The poltergeist’s only form of attack is to levitate a nearby object and throw it at you. These deal severe damage, more than half your healthwith weaker armors. They have aslow recharge rate on this attack, somoving out of the way of these should be your main priority.
The objects won’t move, so reposition yourself so that there iscover between you and it. Use that time behind cover to look around for the mutant. Once it’s been fired off (and hit your cover), pursue.
Keep your health high, even if it’s only around half. It can be very easy to be struck down if you’re not paying attention.
Apply Consistent Pressure With Firepower
When you deal damage to a poltergeist, they will stop what they’re doing and run away. Sometimes they will alsopull up a gravity barrier full of rocks for protection. During this time, it won’t attempt to levitate an object to throw at you until it’s found a new spot of safety. If you may manage tofollow it and continue dealing damage, you can keep it on the run, never attacking.
It’s fast, and nearly invisible, so keeping track of it will be difficult. But it can be done. We recommenda high-damage weapon that can be fired with relative quickness and accuracy, such as anassault rifle on three-round-burst mode,or ashotgun with a clipinstead of one-shell-at-a-time reloads.
Odds are, whenever you reload your weapon, they’ll have enough time to stop and levitate something. So even when applying pressure, watch out for those.
Continue this process long enough, and the poltergeist will die, dropping its invisibilityto reveal a legless, long-armed green humanoid with no chin and zero rizz.
