Summary

It’s coming up on six years since Team Cherry revealedHollow Knightwill be getting a sequel, and somehow it doesn’t feel like we’re any closer to it in 2025 than we were in 2019. Even die-hard Hollow Knight fans appear to be giving up hope as many of them have collectively agreed to just pretendSilksongwill be featured duringNintendo’s Switch 2Direct on June 18, 2025, even if it’s not.

Nintendo revealed the Switch 2 last week, confirming it will hold a Direct for the new console on April 2. While some Hollow Knight hopefuls immediately jumped to the conclusion that’s when Silksong will be re-revealed and given a release date, realists who have been through this too many times have already resigned themselves to more heartbreak, agreeing to just pretend it appears during the presentation.

Reddit user u/Skibidiohiorizzlrrhas led the charge onthe r/Silksong subreddit, calling upon their fellow Hollow Knight-heads to pretend that the game has been released once April 2 is here and the Switch 2’s first Direct inevitably leaves them all disappointed again. The replies suggest that quite a few people are on board with the idea, while others have leaned into the gimmick even more and are pretending Silksong has already been here for a while.

Hollow Knight Fans Are Now Resigned To Pretending The Game Has A Release Date

Something To Look Forward To On April 2 Whether It’s Re-Revealed Or Not

Not everyone is on board with just pretending Silksong exists with one of the wilder theories yet that news is coming being spun shortly after the Switch 2 reveal.Someone reverse image searched a photo of a cakea Silksong dev used as their profile picture, pointing to the recipe the photo was taken from being shared on June 08, 2025. For some, that was enough to prove Silksong will be a part of the upcoming Switch 2 Direct.

There really is no telling when exactly we might see Silksong show up next. While a Nintendo Direct could be the right platform to re-reveal the highly-anticipated sequel, it also has connections toXbox. Now, I don’t want to get anybody’s hopes up, but there’s an Xbox Developer Direct on Thursday. Perhaps the game gets re-revealed there, although for now, I’d stick to pretending it has already been revealed and released.

My advice is to try to forget about it entirely, then when it does show up again, it will be a big surprise and everyone will go wild. Between pretending it’s been and gone and reverse image-searching cake pictures though, I think we may be well beyond that at this stage.
