Helldivers 2 is in a bit of a lull at the moment. Following the completion of the DSS,which proceeded to blow up absolutely everything in its path, worthwhile events have been pretty thin on the ground. It’s been even longer since the game’s last proper update, so it’s safe to say that players were starting to feela little fed up with the monotony of the Galactic War.
There have been rumblings, including a rather unsubtle hint from developer Arrowhead Studios that it had beengearing up for the long-rumored and highly anticipated invasion of the Illuminate, and it turns out the faction waited until everyone was fixated on The Game Awards to pull the trigger. It seems like we have a cunning foe on our hands.
Helldivers 2’s Illuminate Faction Invaded During The Game Awards
In a new trailer revealed at The Game Awards, we finally got our first look at The Illuminate going up against Super Soldiers, including a variety of different enemy types. We also got to see a new buggy type vehicle being added, which was leaked a few times prior to this announcement, as well as what appears to be a new environment that looks to be a bit more built up.
With this invasion, a completely new player has entered the field, so it’ll be interesting to see how our brave soldiers overcome and adapt against a new foe. We already know a lot of weaknesses of the Illuminatethanks to various datamines and leaked images, but putting those tactics into practice is a very different affair.
