If you’ve been a part of theHelldivers 2community, or have kept up with some forums, you’ll know that there are tons of conspiracy theories, inside jokes, and straight-up developer trolling that goes on behind the scenes. Whether it’s thelegends of John Helldiver, why we’re killing the Terminids, or if there’s afourth, more dangerous factionout there, there’s a lot of discussion going on.
Among the lighter side of these topics is a conspiracy theory claiming that developer Arrowhead has been secretly increasing the size of one of the best guns in the game. Whether it’s true or just some sort of Mandela Effect, the LAS-16 Sickle appears to be getting larger and larger, almost to a comical size. However, Arrowhead has now come out and denied this.
The Sickle Was Always That Large
As spotted byVideoGamer, over on theHelldivers Discord, community manager B Vitamin confirmed that we were all just imagining it. “We’re all aware of the “the sickle is big” memes at this point but the reality is, the gun is just big, its size has never changed and it’s not broken,” said the community manager.
So, why have we all collectively been thinking that it gets bigger every time? There are a few explanations. Firstly, it could just be an optical illusion. The weapon looks much larger then it’s holstered than it looks in-hand. So, when we see images of it holstered it just looks bigger, and could also vary based on the armour worn in the respective instance.
Another reason could be that our memories are tricking us, and we’re thinking of theLAS-5 Scythe. Which is a smaller but similar looking weapon from the first Helldivers Mobilize Warbond. Along with the LAS-7 Dagger, maybe we’re all just misremembering things a bit.
However, the third option is that Arrowhead is actually messing with us but just doesn’t want to admit it. I have to say, after getting stick from the community for all the previous nerfs, watching people go full Pepe Silvia in the subreddit.
