Yesterday,Helldivers 2 released the first half of its surprise Killzone 2 crossover. While it has been a highly-requested collaboration since the game first launched, there was a huge amount ofbacklash from the community over the pricing.
It got so bad that developer Arrowhead is now making the second part of the crossover completely free.
The first half will also be available in the Superstore for ten days instead of five, and Arrowhead is “investigating solutions for how [it] can bring back these items permanently in the future.”
It’s a huge move to address feedback from players, but Arrowhead CEO Shams Jorjani explained just yesterday that these kinds of crossovers and cosmetics are what fund the game’s enormous updates. So, it remains to be seen how they’ll be tackled in future.
“Firstly - this is our first collaboration so we’ll be figuring it out as we go along. Let us know what you’d like to see in the future,” Jorjani posted in the official Discord. “Secondly it’s optional - the more of this we sell - the more Illuminate type stuff we can keep dropping for free.”
The Killzone Crossover Was Originally A Special Warbond
Last week, reliable leaker Iron_S1ghts uncovered key artrevealing the Killzone crossoverahead of the official announcement. However, it was a Warbond, not individual Superstore items. So, at one point during development, Arrowhead planned to feature these cosmetics in a special battle pass.
One commenter asked Pilestedt why this happened on Twitter, and he explained, “The reason we changed it from a Warbond was actually because there were concerns that having a higher priced Warbond would carry negative sentiment”.
