Summary

The voice actor behindHalf-Life’s enigmatic and iconic G-Man, Mike Shapiro, has got fans excited after posting a mysterious video that suggests “unexpected surprises” are coming soon.

If you’ve been a fan of gaming for even a short amount of time, chances are thatyou’ve heard the jokes about Valve’s unbelievably-anticipated Half-Life 3. With the studio focusing more on Steam and console development in recent years, all of the punchlines about Valve not being able to count to three have been just that, with no one actually expecting anything to come from it.

In recent months, though, things have started to look up for Half-Life fans. Ignoring the sudden rumours thatHalf-Life 3 would finally be announced at last year’s The Game Awards, there’s been plenty of evidence suggesting that the game’s development is progressing steadily at Valve, with the most recent rumour even hinting that it’s hit a new playtesting stage.

Half-Life’s G-Man Teases “Unexpected Surprises” Are On Their Way

As if that wasn’t all exciting enough, there’s been a surprising turn of events in the Half-Life community. Just as the new year began yesterday,Mike Shapiro, the voice actor behind G-Man, decided to post to Twitter for the first time since 2020. The mysterious video, which has images from the actor’s music album, has Shapiro musing at the beginning of 2025 and saying that it was good to see and hear from so many fans.

Shapiro then says that he hopes the next quarter-century (25 years) delivers as many “unexpected surprises”, as 2020 to 2025 did. Shaprio’s video ends with him saying that time is fluid, like music, and saying that he’ll see us all in the new year. That all seems vague enough, but it’s worth noting that Shapiro tagged the video with “Half-Life”, “Valve”, and “2025”.

Another year already. Good to see and hear from so many of you. May the next quarter century deliver as many unexpected surprises. As did the millennium’s first. Then again, time is fluid, like music. See you… in the new year. - Mike Shapiro

Considering how long it’s been since Shapiro tweeted, it’s reason enough for Half-Life fans to get excited about something on the horizon, but coupled with all of the rumours and leaks lately, it really does seem like Half-Life 3 might be becoming a reality soon. Time to polish off that crowbar, Mr Freeman.
