Summary
Rockstar is preparing to releaseGrand Theft Auto 6in less than a year, but we still know very little about it. The game is set in Leondia, the GTA equivalent of Florida and that our dual protagonists are a criminal couple named Jason and Lucia. It takes place in Vice City, the same setting as Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, but Grand Theft Auto 6 takes place in a different universe than its predecessor, the “HD Universe.”
That’s about all we learned from the game’sfirst trailer, which remains the only official promotion Rockstar has released. The sparse nature of the facts was never going to stop fans from filling in the gaps with their own theories. Most of theseare nonsensical, but a new theory spurred on by the latestGTA Onlineupdate actually has legs. It was proposed byDawsonPoe on Reddit, who speculates that an innocuous text from Lester is actually a subtle set-up to a future cameo in Grand Theft Auto 6.
Vacation Time
After selling his Darnell Garment Factory to the player, Lester contacts them saying he’s moved on to greener pastures. “I have a bottomless margarita in one hand and a receipt of sale in the other,” the text begins. “I should have guessed it would end up in your hands - just about everything else in the city has. Nothing beats retirement though. P.S. Georgina says hi.” Attached to the text is a picture of Lester and Georgina in front of the sea.
The mention of a margarita in combination with the attached picture evokes images of a sunny beach in our minds, a fitting match for Leondia’s Vice City. The original poster theorises that we may see Lester make a cameo appearance in Grand Theft Auto 6’s story mode. There’s also a chance that Lester will become involved in GTA 6’s own Online Mode. As much as he might say otherwise, Lester doesn’t seem the type to quietly retire - he’ll never be able to resist a juicy score.
Characters appearing in multiple games is nothing new for Grand Theft Auto. Johnny Klebitz (GTA 4) was unceremoniously murdered by Trevor in the latter’s first scene in GTA 5, Karen Daniels and Packie McCreary also appear in both GTA 4 and GTA 5. There’s every chance we’ll see a few recurring characters in GTA 6.
Grand Theft Auto 6
Grand Theft Auto VI heads to the state of Leonida, home to the neon-soaked streets of Vice City and beyond in the biggest, most immersive evolution of the Grand Theft Auto series yet.
