Summary
A frankly mind-boggling mod forGrand Theft Auto 5has ported over and remastered Liberty City fromGrand Theft Auto4, giving players a chance to revisit everywhere Niko tore up. And yes, that includes the glitchy swing set.
DespiteRockstar Gamessupporting GTA 5 for more than a decade through consistent updates toGTA Online, it sadly never added any content that was aimed at solo players. That wasn’t always the case, though, as there were originally several expansions planned, including one particularly exciting one that would have let players return to Liberty City.
As we all know, that sadly never ended up coming to pass and GTA 5 players have been stuck in Los Santos for the past ten years without a hope of seeing a remastered Liberty City. Well, thanks to anambitious mod that just released called the Liberty City Preservation Project, that’s no longer the case.
GTA 5 Mod Lets You Return To Liberty City From GTA 4
Earlier this week, World Travelofficially launched the Liberty City Preservation Project, a mod for Grand Theft Auto 5that brings over the beloved city from Grand Theft Auto 4 and essentially remasters it. The mod works with GTA 5’s single-player mod as well as FiveM, and includes the whole map and all of the vehicles, pedestrians, interiors, radio stations, and pretty much everything from Niko Bellic’s game.
This mercifully includes the infamously glitchy swing set in Firefly Projects Park that sends cars and people flying if interacted with. It does a lot more damage to GTA 5’s cars, though, so be careful.
World Travel, the team behind the Liberty City Preservation Project, was interviewed by RockstarINTELand revealed that the project started all the way back in 2018, with lead modder Nkjellman being inspired by the way that Red Dead Redemption 2 let you revisit Blackwater and New Austin from the first game.
The interview also details some of the ways that the mod improves upon Liberty City and how it isn’t just porting the map over into GTA 5’s engine. Modder Barbu noted that the team wanted to make the world more “dynamic” and that they added 4,500 different scenarios across the map, such as a mechanic fixing a car or pedestrians being given a parking ticket.
The ambitious mod is available to download for PC players from the World Travel Discord, although there’s really no telling how long it’s going to be up.Rockstar has previously taken down projects like thisand with rumours of a GTA 4 remaster cropping up all the time, there’s no telling how it’ll react to a team of modders basically doing that legwork for it.
