Summary
It’s no secret that the nextGears of Wartitle is taking us back in time to where it all began on E-Day.Originally unveiled during the Xbox Games Showcase,Gears of War E-Dayis the next title in the long-running third-person shooter franchise.
Instead of picking up where Gears 5 left off,E-Day will explore the origin of the titular universe. That said, it wasn’t exactly clear who exactly would be voicing Marcus Fenix and Dom Santiago whenever E-Day eventually launches.
However, via the official Gears of War Twitter account, we now know that the original Marcus and Dom aren’t going anywhere.
Both John DiMaggio and Carlos Ferro will be back reprising their roles. And asthe official Xbox Twitter accountnoted, there is no one better than them to be back in the booth.
Voice Actors Have Been Recasted Before
While it seems like a no-brainer to hire the original voice actors for Marcus and Dom, that hasn’t always been the case in video games.Gamers might recall that Michael Ironside, the iconic voice behind Splinter Cell’s Sam Fisher, was replaced in Blacklist. The role went to Eric Johnson instead, drawing the ire of fans.
Elsewhere,Keifer Sutherland took on the role of Snake in Metal Gear Solid V. David Hayter was left on the sidelines for that game, though he may be coming back soon.
In other words, it’s not uncommon for games and series that rely on voice actors to find replacements, whether due to star power or changes in narrative. Sometimes it works out, and other times it doesn’t. That obviously won’t be an issue for E-Day, as we’ll have the Marcus and Dom we’ve always known.
