Summary
Despite widespread fear, Playground Games has come out to confirm that Forza Horizon 3 is not having its servers shutdown anytime soon. The 2016 hybrid racer, which was released onXbox OneandPC,has long been delisted from digital storefronts. However, it remains playable online and for those who have already purchased it or own a physical copy.
Information about the status of Horizon moving forward comes from developer Playground Games themselves. In a response on Reddit, a senior community developer shared news of a server reboot, writing:
Hey everyone, please check again as we have rebooted the servers, and we’re seeing positive responses in terms of traffic on the servers themselves. Thank you for your patience, and apologies for the inconvenience.
In the time since, players have confirmed their ability to play online. “You’re a saint,“one user wrote in response. “Please send thanks to whoever rebooted them on behalf of myself and the handful of very dedicated FH3 players I know (who) are incredibly happy to see this game being kept alive.”
As first shared online by Pure Xbox, reports from players who were having server issues with Horizon 3 led many to believe that a shutdown was imminent. According to the report, multiple online features for the game were simply “greyed out,” including Rivals, Clubs and the Auction House.
Of the Forza Horizon games, Horizon 3 and onward are all still working online.Forza Horizon 2, the 2014 Xbox One and Xbox 360 title, along with the original 2012 Forza Horizon, both had its servers shutdown in August 2023. That said, the single-player experience remains entirely functional.
“FH3 servers have been going for four years already, so closing them this year wouldn’t be surprising,“one user theorized onlinebefore Playground dispelled any rumors of a shutdown. Ultimately, Forza Horizon 3’s servers will go down at some point. However, that day is seemingly not today or anytime soon, and players can continue to carry on.
