Summary
After much speculation and a few leaks in-between, Unreal Tournament has been officially revealed as one ofFortnite’snext collaborations.
More so, it won’t be too long before fans can begin reliving one of gaming’s most storied shooters, as the collab is set to drop next week on December 10.That’s just one day before the long-rumored first-person mode, known as Fortnite Ballistic, is set to enter Early Access.
The official Fortnite Twitter accountshared a teaser of the collaboration on Saturday, where Garog and Samael from the later Unreal Tournaments are both shown in glorious HD.
As longtime gamers may recall, Unreal, and more specifically Unreal Tournament, were a series of shooters fromEpic Gamesthat date back to the 1990s. That is where the Unreal Engine gets its namesake from, and despite not having an official entry since 2007, its impact on the genre cannot be overstated.
Naturally, with Fortnite also being an Epic Games venture and on the Unreal Engine, there had been hope that the two titles would cross over at some point. Even dating back to a year ago, a fan had compiled a list of references that were present in Fortnite, hoping they would be a sign of things to come.
Flash forward to late November, when reliable insider Shiina leaked the two skins coming to Fortnite at some point. That once again reignited interest in the collab.
At this moment, it’s unclear if Garog and Samael are the only two characters coming to the game, or if others, like Malcolm, will also be part of the collab. Either way, it’s a cool blast from the past.
