Summary
Fortniteplayers have called out Chapter 5 for its treatment of Gaming Legends skins and pointed out that there’s been a “significant decrease” compared to other Chapters.
As even those who haven’t played Fortnite will know, one of the biggest parts of the game’s identity is its many, manycrossoverswith pretty much every IP you can think of.From Family Guy’s Peter Griffin to El Chapulín Colorado, Epic Games has proven time and time again that it’ll team up with everyone, even if it clearly has some obvious favourites.
Chapter 5 of Fortnite has proven this ideology perhaps more than any other period of Fortnite, with some of the weirdest and multi-media-spanning collaborations yet. That makes it all the weirder that the belovedGaming Legends subset of skinshas seen such little attention over the past six seasons.
Fortnite Fans Aren’t Happy With Chapter 5’s Treatment Of Gaming Legends
For those that don’t know, Gaming Legends are a type of Fortnite skin that was officially started in Chapter 2 (although Chapter 1 did give usBorderlands' Psycho Bandit) and includes characters from, you guessed it, gaming. Considering Fortnite is a game first and foremost, it’s a fan-favourite category of skins, and one with endless potential.
Despite that, it seems that Epic Games has put it on the back-burner a little bit in Chapter 5.As pointed out by Redditor Alphasilverhawk on the Fortnite Battle Royale subreddit, Chapter 5 only saw the introduction of a very slim four Gaming Legends, including Solid Snake, Raiden, Lethal Company’s “The Employee”, and some Power Armour from Fallout.
Considering how many gaming collabs are rumoured to be in the works for Fortnite, Chapter 5 only having four skins is very surprising. For comparison’s sake, Chapter 4 had nine Gaming Legends, Chapter 3 had 12, and Chapter 2 had 10. Beyond potential issues with rights holders and the focus on rappers and real-world figures, it’s not really clear why this is the case.
Don’t even get us started on how long we’ve waited for characters like Kratos and Master Chief to be added back to the Item Shop after their debut.
Whatever is causing Fortnite to leave Gaming Legends behind a bit, fans have noticed that it’s getting less attention. In that same Reddit thread, fans have called it “odd"and pointed out how many characters are said to be on their way and have seemingly been delayed. Many argue that it’s likely a problem with the IP holders and not Epic, but it’s strange nonetheless.
It’s not just this Reddit thread that highlights the lack of Gaming Legends in Fortnite recently,as Twitter user Gaspafv shared a post asking players if they think the Gaming Legends seriesis the “most neglected rarity” in all of Fortnite. As you may probably imagine, a lot of fans agree that’s the case.
