Summary
Epic Gameshas officially confirmed thatFortniteChapter 6 will be bringing back Hitscan for guns, which presumably means that bullet drop is a thing of the past for most weapons.
Since its Battle Royale mode took the world by storm in 2017, Fortnite has gone through a lot of changes, from its visuals and gameplay mechanics to how stuffed with crossovers it is. Perhaps the biggest change, though, washow Chapter 5 took away Hitscan from most weapons and made bullet drop a key feature of most guns.
For those that don’t know, Hitscan basically means that the bullets don’t have to travel and will hit whatever they’re targeting at almost instantly. Bullet drop is the opposite of that, as the bullets fired from guns need time to travel and will be affected by the distance at which they’re fired at. Hitscan being gone for most weapons has been controversial, but it looks like Chapter 6 is ready to make amends.
Hitscan Is Confirmed To Return For Guns In Fortnite Chapter 6
Over on Twitter, reliable Fortnite insider HYPEX revealedthat the official Australian Twitter account for the game confirmed something big - Hitscan is coming back for Chapter 6.The Aussie Fortnite Twitter simply shared a picture of a new ARand said that weapons in Chapter 6, Season 1 are Hitscan, before following it up with an emphatic “Woot”.
As of right now, it’s not clear how many weapons are going to have Hitscan, as the Twitter account makes it sound like it’ll be all of them. That makes sense for ARs, pistols, and shotguns, but it does seem like a drastic leap for weapons like snipers that make sense to have them. We’ll have to wait for the Chapter to drop before we know for sure.
Shortly after the Australian Fortnite account revealed the news, the worldwide Fortnite Twitter also confirmed that Hitscan is coming back.
Interestingly, this is actually theexact opposite conclusion that some Fortnite players came to after seeing the gameplay launch trailer. A brief scene from that footage showed a player sliding and firing a gun, which seemed to have bullet drop. It’s not clear if that specific gun has it or if everyone was just wrong, but it seems that Hitscan is confirmed to return in most cases.
