Summary
In case you missed it, Exodus, a new science-fiction RPG by ex-Bioware leads, is slated for release at some point in the near future.It was initially unveiled at the 2023 edition of The Game Awards, with actor Matthew McConaughey revealing it’s his first-ever video game project.
The game is being developed by Archetype, aWizards of the Coast studio. Archetype was founded by James Ohlen and Chad Robertson, both of whom have experience atBioware, withgames like Star Wars: The Old RepublicandMass Effect Andromeda on their resumes.
Per the game’s website, its synopsis is as follows:
Having fled a dying Earth, humanity has found a new home in a hostile galaxy. Here, we are the underdogs, fighting our final battle for survival. You are the Traveler, humanity’s last hope.
Whenever the game does launch, fans won’t have to look far to see the inspiration for The Travelers.
Star Wars Inspires Everything
As part of a Q&A session on YouTube,and as spotted and transcribed by GamesRadar, Ohlen and Robertson dived deeper into the game’s lore, including who exactly The Travelers are and where their inspiration came from.
“You’re gonna be part of an organization that goes out and finds these remnants that you can bring back that will help your world and change your world,” Ohlen explained. “That’s gonna be the centerpiece of the IP.”
And that centerpiece is seemingly inspired by Star Wars, specifically the Jedi.
“you may think a little bit of inspiration from the Jedi, but there’s not like a Jedi council in the game that is an overarching structure,” Robertson added. “They’re a little bit more rogue, a little bit more independent, but still work toward a common goal of saving humanity.”
It isn’t all too surprising that the game is seemingly taking cues from one of sci-fi’s most recognizable IPs and groups. After all, Star Wars is a landmark property. More so, it likely helps that the duo were previously involved in a Star Wars title. Ultimately, only time will tell whether the inspiration is just enough or too on the nose.
