Summary
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirthis amongthe nominees to be crowned 2024’s Game of the Year, and deservedly so. However, there’s one thing that even the game’s director has admitted they don’t like about the game - its Platinum Trophy. In fact, they dislike it so much that they’ve apologized to Rebirth players and promised it will never happen again.
You’re awarded a Platinum Trophy at the end of a PlayStation game if you have managed to unlock all of the other trophies during your playthrough, or in some cases multiple playthroughs. Platinums in some games are relatively easy to unlocklike the one in the recently released Lego Horizon Adventures. Rebirth’s is more difficult to capture, a lot more difficult, and Naoki Hamaguchi has apologized for that, admitting it was a mistake duringan interview with the Daily Star.
There is one other thing actually, which I can say was a mistake on my part, something that I’ve already apologized for, and I definitely will not do again, which is how difficult I made it to get the Platinum Trophy… Rest assured I have learned from that and in future I will not be making Platinum Trophies that difficult.
Good to know that the Platinum for Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 won’t be as hard to obtain as it was in Rebirth, nor any other game Hamaguchi works on where he calls those shots. Their apology isn’t just a promise for the final part of the Remake trilogy, but for all of their games moving forward.
Even Rebirth’s Director Knows The Game’s Platinum Is Too Hard To Get
Part 3 Will Have No Such Issue
Rebirth is a lot different from Remake, its open world filled with minigames and side quests for you to partake in as you progress. It’s the Trophies some of those additional activities are tied to which make unlocking Rebirth’s Platinum such a chore. Completing all of Chadley’s combat simulations, for example, as well as donating all possible items to Johnny’s treasure trove are things I’m just never going to do. I’m clearly not the only one either with fewer than 13 percent of Rebirth players unlocking those Trophies.
During the same interview, Hamaguchi also confirmedRebirth won’t be getting any additional content. The director explained that the team wants to get Part 3 out as soon as possible so work on the trilogy’s finale is presumably already well underway. Hopefully that means we won’t have to wait four years between games like we did after Remake.
