Elden Ringis a dark, dark game. There is a serial killer who plans to curse the planet, hundreds of deformed, monstrous creatures, and selfish Demigods each with their own curse and plans to control The Lands Between.
With each Demigod’s curse different, causing suffering in a variety of ways, a discussion has taken placeon Reddit, with Elden Ring players deciding who has it worse than the rest.
Malenia’s Scarlet Rot
Arguably, the most popular choice for “worst curse” wasMaleniaand her Scarlet Rot. Born afflicted with the disease, Malenia rotted from the inside out. Despite this, she became a fearsome warrior, winning countless battles and earning an army of followers.
Her curse, however, was seen as worse than the rest by some.
She is literally rotting apart, she has lost multiple limbs and her eyes.
Jayborinosaid, “Malenia, because she is literally rotting apart, she has lost multiple limbs and her eyes,” with Megatyrantadding, “She carries a pathogen that indiscriminately harms friend and foe. Her and her brother’s big joint project, the Haligtree, failed because of it, and the Cleanrots can’t even serve her without rotting from the inside.”
To make matters worse, she is also cursed to behunted for eternity by Let Me Solo Her.
Morgott, The Omen King’s Omen Curse
Morgott, alongside his twin brother,Mohg, was born an Omen. This meant his blood was cursed, and he had hideous disfigurements. Thus, he was confined to the sewers for most of his life. He is seen as one of Elden Ring’s only good Demigods, so his curse is one that many saw as worse than Malenia’s.
Arguing for Morgott alongside Malenia, Jayborino said, “Morgott because he grew up in a mf’ing sewer, then came out to rule a kingdom in decline out of love that would never be reciprocated. He could not reveal himself. He hated himself and then died that way.”
All his efforts, everything he will ever do, will be for nothing.
Lucifer-Euclid agreed that Morgott’s curse was the worst,saying, “All his efforts, everything he will ever do, will be for nothing. He was never going to achieve his dream of being accepted by the people he desperately protected, to the point of death.”
The poor chap.
Messmer The Impaler And His Big Snake
Joining the party inShadow of the Erdtree, Messmer was born with an evil serpent inside him. This serpent meant Messmer was shunned to the Land of Shadow and forced to live out his time alone.
The repercussions of being cursed have left him broken, alone, and directionless.
U_slashh saw this as the worst curse of all,saying, “Marika put Messmer and the entire lands he conquered into a pocket dimension because it was deemed too dangerous. Whilst it’s hard to see how much his curse has physically affected him, the repercussions of being cursed have left him broken, alone, and directionless.”
Krayniac added one to theMessmertally,saying, “It’s worth thinking about how every other demigod is at least fighting for something or has some goal they’re trying to achieve. Messmer, by the time we get to him, is truly a broken man with nothing because his curse got him sent to the Shadowlands.”
It’s an interesting discussion, and a case can certainly be made for all, but it’s hard to look past these three as the worst.
