Summary

Dragon Age: The Veilguard’s Patch 3 has been released byBioWare, adding a couple of new features and a long list of bug fixes. The new features are few, with the most exciting addition being that you can now add filters in photo mode. If you’ve ever sat mid-combat with the darkspawn scourge, opened photo mode and thought, “This would look way better if it were slightly more yellow-toned,” then your prayers have been answered.

The biggest addition, however, isn’t a new feature, but a rather crucial bug fix. You see, I’ve written in the past about how thedeadliest enemy in Dragon Age: The Veilguardisn’t Ghilan’nain, Elgar’nan or any draconic opponent, but rather, a shallow pool of water. Yes, Rook, much like the Inquisitor and the Warden, is utterly incapable of staying alive at any depth.

Beware the Watery Depths

Dragon Age: The Veilguard is particularly punishing for the non-aquatic, as you can wind up flailing uselessly against a watery doom if you allow the water to get up to even your waist. If only Rook would just stand up, he wouldn’t have to suffer. However, even worse than the constant deaths is when you get stuck in an infinite drowning loop. This can happen in areas where the game respawns you above the water, rather than on solid ground. By the time the screen fades in from darkness, you’re already back in the water drowning.

“Fixed a place in Arlathan Forest where Rook could get stuck in a drowning loop,” read thepatch notes. I’ve had this bug occur in Arlathan Forest, but I’ve also had it occur in Treviso. There’s an area on the canals where you can summon Lucanis' environmental ability, but if you happen to be in the water when it despawns, you’ll get stuck in one of these loops. It’s unknown if BioWare has only fixed the bug in Arlathan, or in general.

Other than that, the rest of the patch is general bug fixes. As a side note, there appear to be a lot of people on social media looking for game-changing patches similar to the approach taken by Baldur’s Gate 3, but Larian is the exception to the rule, and BioWare is moving on to develop Mass Effect 5, so don’t expect any content that requires additional animation or voice acting.
