Early game spoilers for Dragon Age: The Veilguard below
Summary
Dragon Age: The Veilguardlets youhook up with every companion, regardless of your character’s gender or background. However, you can fumble one of them if you make a certain early game decision in the story.
After recruiting Davrin, you’ll return to the Lighthouse and be told thatdragons are attacking both Treviso and Dock Town. Rook can only be in one place at once, and whichever place you choose to defend gets off the lightest. Since Lucanis and Neve are from Treviso and Dock Town respectively, their outlook changes depending on which one gets saved, with the one who was left to fight on their own becoming “hardened”.
In practice, this means that it takes longer to gain their approval going forward, and they can’t use supportive abilities in combat. However, for some reason, there is a consequence that is exclusive to Lucanis: he won’t be a romance option anymore.
Dragon Age: The Veilguard Player Makes Lucanis Romanceable No Matter What
There were even files in the game for a hardened Lucanis romance, but these go unused
Over on Nexus Mods, the Lucanis Romance Project Team has shared its creation, theHardened Lucanis Romance. As the name suggests, it stops Lucanis from shooting you down if Treviso gets blighted, hardening him as a result.
Curiously, it seems that cutting off the Lucanis romance like this wasn’t always intended. The team says that the mod works by using cut content which was made specifically for a hardened Lucanis romance. We can see some of them in the preview images for the mod, with Lucanis' dialogue changing if he’s being romanced after Dock Town was saved over Treviso.
Of course, this is only helpful if you’re playing on PC. It doesn’t seem thatBioWareis interested in adding this path in an official capacity, and we knowthat there will be no DLC.
Dragon Age: The Veilguard is available on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
