Dragon Age: The Veilguardmight notcarry our choices over from previous games, but it crams in a few references to help the world feel connected. As it happens, one of these references involves a giant cheese wheel, because of course it does.
Towards the beginning of the game, when you get the chance to help out Bellara, you’re taken to some ruins that are being used to store magical items. These artefacts are all being kept behind barriers for everyone’s protection, as notes that you find scattered around reveal that they are dangerous. However, one of these items is inexplicably a huge wheel of cheese, with absolutely no explanation as to what it does and why it’s being stored for our protection.
Dragon Age: The Veilguard Has A Nod To The Series' Love Of Cheese
If you’ve played the previous Dragon Age games, you’ll be well aware that cheese is an important part of the series' identity. It all started with Alistair (the best character) inDragon Age: Origins, who makes a couple of comments about his love of cheese in the game - and is likely to blame for the huge cheese wheel in the party camp.
If made king, an NPC will mention how much Alistair loves cheese inDragon Age 2. And, of course, cheese could be found in-game too. BioWare upped the ante inDragon Age: Inquisition, with even more comically large cheese wheels scattered around Thedas, one of which, the Wedge of Destiny, could be equipped as a shield.
If you were wondering if this is on purpose, it absolutely is. As reported byCNETin 2014, around the time of Inquisition’s release, a BioWare spokesperson said, “We’ve had cheese hidden in every Dragon Age game since Origins. It’s not new, just more people noticing, because we made a shield this time.”
Veilguard continuing this proud tradition is far from the only reference to the previous games that players have come across. In Weisshaupt, you canfind the chalice that the Hero of Ferelden drank from during their Joining. There’s even a throwaway line thatreferences the infamous Fade quest from the first game.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard is the long-awaited fourth game in the fantasy RPG series from BioWare formerly known as Dragon Age: Dreadwolf. A direct sequel to Inquisition, it focuses on red lyrium and Solas, the aforementioned Dread Wolf.
