Summary
With both Hawke and the Inquisitor returning inDragon Agesequels, the series has set up a precedent of our player characters coming back in the next game. However, the Hero of Ferelden has never made the cut, only appearing inDragon Age: Origins.
Now,Dragon Age: The Veilguarddirector Corinne Busche says that she’d be up for bringing them back. In a Reddit AMA, Busche says she would “like to explore” the Warden’s return, but adds that the team would have to find “the right story” for it.
Dragon Age: The Veilguard Director Discusses The Warden’s Return
It would be difficult, but BioWare hasn’t ruled it out
In the Reddit AMA, one of the many questions that the lead devs were asked related to a potential return of the Hero of Ferelden. Busche took this question on, explaining her thoughts on the matter.
“I often think about the role the Hero of Ferelden might play,” shesays. “It’s a challenging one due to the choices the player may have made, not to mention how we handle giving them a voice that matches player expectation given they were a silent protagonist [sic].
“But I do think there is something there, and I would like to explore it, if we can find the right story to tell.”
The Hero of Ferelden wasoriginally intended to appear in Dragon Age: Inquisition. They would have come back in the same quest as Hawke, meaning we would have had to decide who to sacrifice between our last two player characters (sorry, Hawke. You’re up). Unsurprisingly, this was dropped due to concerns around voicing a previously unvoiced protagonist, something which Busche is also mindful of.
In place of an actual appearance, we’ve heard others discuss the hero’s exploits. Several characters can reference them inDragon Age 2andInquisition. We don’t get this in The Veilguard since there are no world state imports, but there is a little nod to them in Weisshaupt. It’s also worth noting thatworld states could return in the next game, making the Warden’s cameo possible.
