Summary
Dragon Age: The Veilguard’s combat is largely a hit with fans, but it can get a little repetitive after a while. Many of the quests can feel very formulaic, as we battle waves of enemies before taking on a main baddie at the end.
Because of this, it’s no surprise that many are longing for a little bit of mission variety. This has fans missing the wayDragon Age: Inquisitionbroke up the constant fighting - by sending us to survive Orlesian politics in the Winter Palace.
So much of Veilguard revolved around combat, and players wish there was a least one main mission to break this up
Wicked Eyes and Wicked Heartssees the Inquisitor forced to attend a ball in order to put down a Venatori plot. Their decisions influence who becomes the ruler of Orlais - and it’s even possible to fail the quest if you commit enough social faux pas.
It was great for roleplaying too, as anyone but a non-mage human was hit with an approval loss as soon as the quest began. WithThe Veilguard making it fairly difficult to roleplay, it’s no wonder that some fans miss it.
“Veilguard desperately needed something like this in Minrathous,” says Reddit user fingergunsmcgee42 “I think we should have had better faction quests in general, and the Shadow Dragons would have really benefited from something like a smaller [to Wicked Eyes and Wicked Hearts] where Rook and co have to infiltrate a meeting of the Magestrium and encounter people from these castes while attempting to get some information to help track down Elgar’nan.”
Many in the replies agree, with BubbleDncr saying, “I didn’t like how Wicked Eyes, Wicked Hearts was designed with the timer mechanics. But I do wish they had a variety to their quest types. I was pretty bummed that everything was just combat.”
Even those who didn’t love the Winter Palace in Inquisition agree that this could have helped. “We needed something like this in Tevinter or Treviso,” says alihou. “The biggest disappointment amongst many other things was how poor the quests were.”
The closest we get to this In The Veilguard is a brief segment in which we infiltrate a Venatori meeting in Arlathan Forest. However, after spending about five minutes in our disguises, these are ditched, and we don’t really get the chance to try and blend in through dialogue. It’s certainly no Landsmeet or Halamshiral ball.
