Dragon Age: The Veilguardhas divided longtime fans of the series in many areas. While many love the combat and are relieved to finally have Solas' story wrapped up after a ten-year wait, some havetaken issue with the game’s tone, writing, and how it’sseemingly retconned parts of the lore.
Now, another part of the game that’s come under fire is its soundtrack. This was an issue before launch,with some labelling Veilguard’s main theme as “generic”. And now that we’ve had hours and hours to hear the full score, many are comparing it unfavourably to that ofDragon Age: Inquisition, which most fans appear to prefer.

“Inquisition has some genuinely good music in the game that I love hearing when exploring the areas and they really elevate the cutscenes,” says Reddit user Wire74. “Whereas, Veilguards music is entirely forgetful and I can’t even remember one basic tune. Large amounts of time, I genuinely don’t even notice the music.”
Many in the replies agree, finding this to be a pretty glaring issue. “The lack of… really powerful set piece music is what really stood out to me the most,” says Darazelly. “Most emotional bit was hearing Trespasser music again.”
A common complaint is that the soundtrack feels like it would be more at home in aMass Effectgame than a Dragon Age title. True enough, it can often sound much more modern than what we’re used to in Dragon Age games, perhaps purposely to differentiate Veilguard’s Northern Thedas setting from the South.
“When I was in the Ossuary, I thought the theme (with synths and all) sounded so fitting for Mass Effect,” says loosersugar. “Like they wrote it for ME and recycled it for DAV.”
So, while it seems like many appreciate Veilguard’s soundtrack in isolation, it just isn’t what they were expecting from a Dragon Age game. It wouldn’t be the first time the tone of the music has changed, with Inon Zur composingDragon Age: OriginsandDragon Age 2before Trevor Morris took over for Inquisition.
