Well, it looks like video games can throw their hat into the “Hollywood What If” bucket, asDino Crisiswas originally set to receive a revival in the form of aNetflixanime. Only it didn’t happen.
Dino May Cry
Taking to Twitter, Adi Shankar, who is currently responsible forNetflix’s upcoming Devil May Cry anime series, revealed that it was Dino Crisis that he was originally after.
In a post, Shankar noted his affinity for the beloved dinosaur survival horror series, before revealing that he originally approachedCapcomabout reviving it in 2017. That, of course, didn’t happen. Instead, Shankar was presented with an opportunity to helm aDevil May Cryseries, and well, the rest is history.
Devil May Cry Is Coming In 2025
Following the massive success of the Castlevania anime, which Shankar was also responsible for,it was announced in 2018 that he would be putting together a series based on Devil May Cry. Flash forward to today, and it has been given a 2025 release window,along with news that Johnny Yong Bosch would be voicing Dante.
DMC fans may recall that this will be the second anime adaptation of the series.The first, which came in 2007, was largely forgettable.
That said, even though Shankar is tied up with DMC, it’s not like Dino Crisis isn’t on his mind. In a reply to a fan on Twitter, Shankar noted that he has a long-term plan for Devil May Cry, and hopes to one day use his influence to resurrect Dino Crisis.
In the meantime, we can only imagine how awesome a Dino Crisis anime could’ve been.
