One such activity that players can enjoy in version 5.2 of the game is Exercise Surging Storm. If you want to participate in this event to receive all the rewards, including the Primogems and Ascension materials, here’s a detailed guide to help you complete the tasks in no time.
Exercise Surging Storm Event Guide
The Exercise Surging Storm Event in Genshin Impact is acombat-oriented activitywhere you have to create a lineup that will fight against other players. However, in this case, the lineup isn’t your heroes but the various enemies that you have fought during your journey through Tevyat.
You’ll need to beat least Adventure Rank 20to participate in this event. Additionally, you’ll alsoneed to complete Archon Quest Prologue: Act III “Song of Dragon and Freedom"to be eligible. The event duration is fromDecember 18, 2024, to May 10, 2025.
Here’s a list of steps that you’ll have to consider before you may start picking up wins in the event.
Selecting Your Units
The first step issetting up your units, which will fight for you. The units are primarily divided into three kinds:Normal, Elite, and Apex. Thebase levelsof the three kinds of units are20, 25, and 30, respectively.
The more you progress, the higher your chances are of receiving Elite and Apex units. TheApex units are marked in Gold, while others are normal white cards. It’s also important to remember that while the units have base levels, you can level them up by selecting duplicates.

Collecting Stratagems
Alongside your units, you’ll need to collect special buff cards called Stratagems. These Stratagems can beselected at thestart of rounds 1, 3, 5, and 7. You’ll have to bestrategic in how you select the Stratagemsas the buffs they provide will define whether you win or lose a fight.
For instance, if you have powerful units towards the end of your lineup, you can select a Stratagem that will increase the levels of those units when any of the starting characters die. This will make the Apex units you placed toward the end of the lineup exceptionally strong.
You’ll have to think about how you want your team to function before selecting any of the buffs.
Set up Your Lineup
Once the Stratagems have been collected and the units have been selected, it is time to set them up in a particular order. Thisorder will depend on the units you have pickedand how you want your team to function.
It’s advisable tokeep your Apex units towards the end of the lineup and pick up Stratagems that will boost themin some way. Make sure you always use the leveled-up units, as an Apex unit at level 30 won’t do much against an Elite at level 50.
You’ll have to strategize depending on what kind of cards you get during the preparation phase.
You get to see your enemy’s lineup before the fight begins. This means you may make changes to your lineup accordingly. However, you won’t be able to level-up units or select Stratagems at the lineup selection stage.
Additionally, there are unit types that you have to consider before deciding on the lineup. The various unit types includeSingle Target, AoE, Team, Melee, Ranged, and Flying. Here’s a description of how they work and the various colour codes to identify them:
These units always attack one target
at a time and deal devastating damage

Battle Phase
Once everything is ready, the battle will begin. You’ll be matched against a random opponent who will also deploy their lineup. You don’t have any control over your unitsonce the battle phase begins, and yourwin or loss is entirely dependent on the preparation phase.
There will be tenback-to-back fights called Wargamesthat you’ll need to go through and grab as many wins as possible. You’ll havefour livescalledRemaining Combat Strength, and if you are defeated, you’ll lose one of them.
Once all four lives are extinguished, you’ll be taken back to the main menu.
