Summary

Capcomhas admitted in a recent press release that it’s currently focused on “reactivating” dormant IP and series that haven’t had a new release in a while, something that was proven atThe Game Awards.

Earlier this week,The Game Awards was absolutely chock a block with revealsand announcements from pretty much every publisher and developer out there. While we didn’t get Kingdom Hearts 4 or Half-Life 3as so many of us hoped, one studio in particular was doing god’s work and seemed to have something new for fans at every turn - Capcom.

Not content to just rule 2025 with Monster Hunter Wilds' inevitably huge release, Capcom announced several games during the show, including a long-awaited sequel to Okamiand aneven longer-awaited revival of Onimusha. This appears to just be the start of Capcom’s work when it comes to bringing back some of its old series, though.

Capcom Wants To Bring Back Even More IP After Okami And Onimusha

As pointed out by Twitter user Genki_JPN, Capcom recently shared a press release for investor relations that outlines its reveal of Okami 2 and Onimusha: Way of the Sword at The Game Awards earlier this week. While it’s great to know that wasn’t just a fever dream, the press release also strictly says what the studio is up to with these projectsand what we could see in the future.

According to Capcom, alongside regularly releasing major titles each year, the studio is now focused on “re-activating dormant IPs that haven’t had a new title launch recently”. This Is being done so that it can “enhance corporate value by leveraging its rich library of content”, which is basically corporate speak for wanting to dive deeper into its backlog of games.

We actually got a little taste of this earlier in the year with Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster, which could very well lead to a sequel or more games in the series getting brought back. God, I sure hope so.

While both Okami and Onimusha are still fairly far away and look like the next step in Capcom achieving this goal,it does open the door for more dormant IPs from the developers being brought back in the future.Dino Crisis and Marvel vs. Capcom are the obvious ones, but then smaller games like God Hand and Viewtiful Joe seem like very good steps in bringing back Capcom classics.
