Summary

In recent weeks,Call of Duty: Black Ops 6has come under fire for a variety of reasons, largely related to the skins and microtransactions present in the game. Becauseafter initially ruling out “carry forward” skins from past CODs, Black Ops 6 has addeda gun that turns into a bong, a"unicorn fart" finishing move, along with aversion of The Replacer that costs $50 in points.

Some of these decisions and the skins that accompany themhave convinced fans that the game is becoming “pay-to-win.”

Well, things are about to get a bit more dicey, as it appears another form of microtransaction will soon join the first-person shooter. This time, an Event Pass, similar to the ones inFortnite, appears to be on its way.

Here Comes The Money

As first spotted by CharlieIntel, an Event Pass is set to join Black Ops 6 beginning with the upcoming Squid Games collaboration. That collaboration has been given a Jan. 3 release date, meaning it won’t be long before everything will be revealed.

Per the in-game announcement, a “Premium Track” will allow for “more incredible rewards.” Among those rewards is an Operator based on Front Man. At this point, it’s unclear what exactly will be “premium,” and what will be available to everyone.

Either way, it represents a new wrinkle that will undoubtedly be part of future COD collabs. That said, it’s not necessarily new for those who have played other similar titles. As mentioned above,Fortnite also has something similar, asdoes Apex Legends. However, those games are free-to-play, making the pass an optional addition to a no-cost experience.

Black Ops 6, on the other hand, Game Pass notwithstanding, is a full-priced title that continues to monetize. Only time will tell how all of this will be received.
