Summary

Name a more deprived group of fans than those ofBloodborne. Those waiting forHollow Knight: Silksongnews probably come close, but calls for a Bloodborne remaster have been around since Silksong was but a grub.

There have been plenty of times when fans havegotten their hopes up—like when a PS5 version of the gamereportedly appeared on PlayStation Starsor whenPlayStation mysteriously tweeted about the game. But there have been just as many times in which they’ve been let down—Like when aHorizon Zero Dawn Remaster was announced, ora Dark Souls 3 one, or somethingeven less exciting than both.

It’s gotten to the point where the community hasgiven up all hope of ever seeing one, andthey’ve even resorted to remastering the game themselves. But, as the tenth anniversary approaches, Bloodborne fans have gatheredon Redditto try and use logic to figure out whyPlayStationisn’t doing anything with the beloved title.

One prevailing theory comes from userdicekit, who feels that the only reason there’s been no Bloodborne remaster or PC port is because of some legal hurdles.

They use a quote from Miyazaki himself as evidence, wherethe game’s creator once said, “If I say I want one, I’ll get in trouble as well. But it’s nothing I’m opposed to.”

The main protagonist in Bloodborne going through a dark, wet, foggy street lit up by the glow of the moon.

Dicekit takes the line “I’ll get in trouble” to mean literal trouble, suggesting that something is legally stopping the game’s creator from sharing what he thinks.

“Sony Has No Interest In Touching The IP Again”

Another theory comes fromVox-Silentiwho suggests that Sony just doesn’t care about the Bloodborne IP, a controversial opinion not shared by all.

While Vox says, “That’s the only reason, and always has been,” others disagree. User WorthlessRain responded by saying, “I mean, it would be unfathomably idiotic to ‘not care’ about one of the most beloved games in history made by one of the most beloved companies in history.”

Vox’s suggestion bought out the tinfoil hats, with many arguing that because PS3-exclusiveDemon’s Soulswas remastered for thePS5launch,Sonywill do the same for Bloodborne and the PS6.

“If You’re Looking For A Reason, It’s Probably Money”

Thesupermonk21 suggests thatmoney is the sole reasona Bloodborne remaster hasn’t seen the light of day. They compareHorizon Zero Dawn’ssales figures, which sit at around 24 million units, to Bloodborne’s 7 million units (as of 2022) and claim this disparity is why Sony hasn’t reignited FromSoftware’s title.

Another user countered this, saying, “Returnal only sold about one million, but they put that on PC anyway,” which is a valid counterpoint.

Arguments later in the thread suggest that Sony may be trepidatious about remastering the game because, although calls for it are loud, there’s no guarantee of sales, much like when Morbius made its way back to theaters.
