That doesn’t seem to have harmed the game, however, as according toSteamDB, it’s seen an influx of players, bringing in its highest player count since mid-October.
Players Come Flooding Back To Black Myth: Wukong After The Game Awards
Black Myth: Wukong is no stranger to high player counts. It broke all kinds of records when almost 2.5 million players played concurrently around the game’s August launch,exceeding 1 exabyte of Steam Data in China.
Naturally, being a single-player title, the player count started to dwindle. While still impressive, it settled around an average of 60,000 concurrent users. That was until last Thursday’s Game Awards.
Despite scooping thePlayer’s Voice awardand the award forBest Action Game, developerGame Science’s CEO criticized the awards showafter it failed to pick up the overall Game of the Year, stating he “came here for nothing.” It’s worth noting thatWukong was the lowest-rated game ever to be nominated for The Game Awards' top prize, so it seems his expectations were out of line somewhere.
Since The Game Awards, Black Myth: Wukong has seen roughly three times as many players playing the game.
It’s not all bad news for the team, though, and as they say, no publicity is bad publicity. Since The Game Awards, Black Myth: Wukong has seen roughly three times as many players playing the game, with it peaking at 213,882 on Saturday, December 14. This is the highest it’s been since Saturday, October 12, when the game had 235,351 players playing concurrently.
This rejuvenated player count is certainly impressive, and it’d be interesting to see how many players jumped in to show their support for Game Science and how many played it just to see what all of the fuss was about.
