The XMG is a powerful LMG inCall of Duty: Black Ops 6.This LMG variant of the XM4 is a surprisingly nimble weapon that can melt through dozens of enemies before it needs to reload. But once you initiate that reload, you’ll be stuck unable to return fire for what feels like an eternity.
Fortunately, you can somewhat mitigate these issues with the right attachments and playstyle mindset. Fight next to objectives and anchor near important areas, and you’ll dominate most lobbies with the XM4. Let’s showcase a few builds to help with that, showcasing an anchor-focused build and a more mobile configuraiton that uses the unique Crossbar attachment.
Prefire XMG Build
The XMG is fantastic for an anchor-heavy playstyle, suppressing an entire area with gunfire. We build heavily into this playsytle withExtended Mag II,doubling the magazine size to allow you to recklessly shoot down hallways and corners.FMJwill also allow you to kill enemies through walls with little issue, which can be incredibly strong in objective-heavy modes.
This build is fantastic for destroying scorestreaks.
For accuracy, we use aCompensatorand aVertical Gripto substantially reduce your weapon’s overall recoil. We also usea red dot opticto better track targets during a gunfight. ATarget Laseris useful for delaying aim idle sway, and theHeavy Stockattachment effectively eliminates incoming flinch in combat. With all these attachments together, you can lock down objectives and tight chokepoints with this gun alone. Hold down the trigger and don’t let go.
Loadout Recommendations
LMGs promote a more anchor-heavy playstyle, making this the perfect weapon to pair with theStrategist specialty. You can useGuardianto trigger HP regeneration while fighting on an objective.Fast Handsgives you a way to instantly swap to your secondary weapon when you need to reload your XM4 but can’t find a safe spot to do so. Finally, runFlak Jacketto survive the stray lethal grenade that lands near you.
Since you’ll be fighting near objectives, you need to run aTrophy Systemas your Field Upgrade. Lethal equipment spam is a serious issue in objective modes like Hardpoint, so having a Trophy System by your side will ensure you’ll survive for more than a couple seconds. Mow down any enemies that come into your line of sight, and you should come out on top.
Pros And Cons
If you’re looking for a more close-range build, you can’t go wrong with aCrossbar.ADS is replaced with a focused hipfire mode that’s incredibly accurate and allows you to strafe quickly, similar to tactical stance. You can further boost your strafe speed with theInfiltrator Stock, giving this weaponcomparable mobility to an assault rifle. AQuickdraw Gripwill also help with overall ADS speed, which does affect how long it takes to aim with the Crossbar installed.
Despite the in-game description, the Crossbar’s ADS mode is technicallynothipfire. It’s unaffected by hipfire attachments, notably the Steady Aim Laser.
Recoil will still be an issue with a Crossbar, so you’ll need to fix it with your remaining attachments. ACompensatorandVertical Foregripwill fix your vertical and horizontal recoil patterns, respectively. Throw onRecoil Springsas your final attachment for additional recoil control. If you prefer, you’re able to drop Recoil Springs for a larger magazine or laser of your choosing.
Field Upgrade
Trophy Systems
We’re recommending the same perk setup as our last build, but with one notable difference, swap Gunfighter for Perk Greed. We don’t need the extra three attachments on the Crossbar build, so we’ll takeTac Maskinstead for tactical equipment resistance. If you don’t mind flashbangs and stuns, you’re able to useScavengerorDispatcherinstead.
