Summary
Pokemon TCG’sPrismatic Evolution set is mostly filled with high rarity reprints of some of your favorite Pokemon. However, if you’re wondering if the set has any good cards that you may use competitively, then you’ve come to the right place. Some of the greatest threats in the Pokemon TCG get reprints, giving you yet another way to obtain them through luck.
If you’ve already built a deck, then Prismatic Evolution is a great way to get a rarity bump that makes your deck just as pretty to look at as it is deadly. So here’s what to keep an eye out for.
10Roaring Moon ex
Free Prize Cards
Roaring Moon ex was first introduced inParadox Rift. This deadly Dark-type Pokemon can put the squeeze on your opponent with Moves that can do devastating damage or allow you to just automatically get a knockout. That’s easy Prize Cards for you.
This is also a Basic Pokemon, so there’s no need to Evolve it from scratch. Without Dark Patch, this Pokemon may take a bit longer to set up, but it is worth it. Prismatic Evolution doesn’t print this card in its lower rarity, but if you hit it, then you have something both powerful and valuable for your collection.
9Amarys
A Fantastic Draw Card
If you’re looking for a fresh card to give yourself a replacement draw engine, then Amarys might be the ticket. Amarys makes her debut in Prismatic Evolutions with rarities ranging from common to special illustrations.
With this Supporter, you can draw four cards on the spot. The only downside is that if you have to discard your entire hand if, by the end of the turn, you have five or more cards left. Luckily, you have the entire turn to figure out a good use for what’s in your hand.
8Max Rod
A Fresh Ace Spec Joins The Collection
Ace Spec cardsget another member with the inclusion of Max Rod. If your deck likes to dump resources into the discard pile, then this Ace Spec was made for you. It allows you to get any five cards from your discard pile as long as they’re Basic Energy or Pokemon.
This can go a long way, since there are no restrictions on which Pokemon you can retrieve. This means they can be ex Pokemon, Evolutions, or even Basics that ended up in the discard prematurely or through your own actions.
7Palafin ex
A Powerful Punch
Palafin ex is not onlya beefy Pokemon in terms of HP, but it also has one mean punch that can deal 250 damage for only one Energy. This Pokemon may not be available as its standard rarity, but it does get a killer new artwork.
This card can turn many other Pokemon into mincemeat by turn two. Its power makes it strong enough to punch through many Basic Pokemon, including some ex Pokemon while still having the HP to withstand even the mightiest hits and potentially get a chance to strike again.
6Teal Mask Ogerpon ex
Energy Acceleration And Draw Power
Teal Mask Ogerpon ex is the best version of Ogerpon. Originally released inthe Twilight Masquerade set, this Pokemon makes a comeback with an alternate illustration for its lowest rarity as well as other deluxe printings.
If you don’t already have a copy, this Pokemon is a must-have since it lets you attach Energy to it quicker while also getting you an additional draw. Its Teal Dance Ability can also be used from the Bench, allowing Ogerpon to power up its Myriad Leaf Shower Move.
5Terapagos ex
A Strong Offense And Even Stronger Defense
Terapagos ex lives up to its turtle nature by having protection from multiple angles. As a Tera Pokemon, it won’t take damage from Moves that would normally hit it on the Bench. Meanwhile, using Crown Opal can dish out 180 damage while any of your opponent’s Basic Non-Colorless Pokemon.
This covers a wide range of targets, making it difficult for your opponent to beat over it unless they have an Evolution Pokemon to go after it. This limitation on your opponent can be just the thing you need to come out on top.
4Ceruledge ex
Turbo Out A Strong Attack
Some decks focus on getting one Move out as fast as possible. Ceruledge ex’s Abyssal Flames is not only easy to get online, but can also ramp up in power pretty quickly. This Move does 30 damage for one Energy with an additional 20 for every Energy in the discard pile.
This means anything that can dump cards in bulk will only make this Pokemon stronger. Its secondary Move, Raging Amethyst, also gives it a stable attack it can use without relying on the number of Energy in the discard pile. After using it, it only makes Abyssal Flames even stronger.
3Bloodmoon Ursaluna ex
A Generic Staple Returns
There’s nothing like having a Colorless Pokemon that you can splash into your deck for some extra power. Bloodmoon Ursaluna ex gets a special illustration reprint in this set just waiting for your opponent to take their Prize Cards.
While Blood Moon usually costs five Colorless Energy to pull off, Ursaluna ex’s Seasoned Skill Ability gives you a discount for each Prize Card your opponent has taken. This makes this card an excellent comeback strategy when you need to catch up or as a way to apply some pressure when the match is too close for comfort.
2Gholdengo ex
Improve Your Draw Power
Draw power is important if you want to see any of your vital cards in your hand. Gholdengo ex has the Coin Bonus Ability, which does the trick. Just having this Pokemon somewhere on your field lets you draw a card. However, if it’s in your Active Spot, you get to draw another one.
You can use this as a way to get to the cards you need, or you can use Make It Rain to get some of those Energy Cards to your discard pile.
1Dragapult ex
Damage Plus Damage Counters
Dragapult ex has proven itself to be a major threat since Twilight Masquerade. Luckily you can get your hands on a copy or evena special illustrationin Prismatic Evolutions. This Pokemon has protection as a Tera Pokemon with some Moves that can demolish your opponent’s field.
Jet Headbutt deals 70 for one Energy, which is good for when you’re still looking for the additional Energy needed for Phantom Drive. Once its second Move becomes usable, things get interesting. Phantom Drive dishes 200 damage but also lets you sprinkle Damage Counters on your opponent’s Bench, putting an end to any wounded Pokemon that might have Retreated.
