Summary

Magic items are one of the best rewards you can give your party inDungeons & Dragons. But, sometimes, it can feel like one player in the party gets to have all the fun. After all, wands and cloaks and rings are fun, but only one person can use them.

That’s why it’s great to consider giving your adventurers magic items that everyone can use. From vehicles to just all-around useful trinkets, magic items that can boost the entire party are fantastic additions to your campaign. Here are some of the best of these items that the whole party can make use of.

Rare

No

This slightly chaotic item can prove to be a lot of fun for the whole party and is extremely useful in the right circumstances. In essence, the Bag of Beans begins with 3d4 dry beans inside of it. When these beans are dumped or thrown, they explode in a 10-foot-radius sphere centered on the bean, causing 5d4 force damage on a failed DC 15 Dex save or half as much on a success.

This is great in combat, but you can also bury and water the beans to produce a random effect one minute later. These random effects can be rolled for or determined by the DM and can produce things like treasure, a beanstalk, or deadly enemies.

Common

The Horn of Silent Alarm has 1d4 charges daily at dawn. You can blow the horn by expending a charge, allowing one creature of your choice to hear the sound it produces within 600 feet. No other creature can hear the sound it creates.

This is obviously great for stealth missions or reconnaissance. Plus, because this item does not require attunement, you may hand it off to any member of the party to scout ahead, warning others about what might be lurking nearby.

Legendary

This item is great for ending combat encounters far earlier than expected. By using the Magic action, you can attempt to trap a creature within 60 feet of you inside the flask. They must make a DC 17 Wisdom saving throw or be trapped.

The best part is, after you release them from the flask, they’ll obey your commands for one hour afterward, even if it doesn’t understand your language. This has some limitations, but overall, this simple item (which doesn’t require attunement) can be used by anyone in the party to pin down an otherwise wily adversary.

Uncommon

This item appears to be a simple ceramic jug, but it’s actually so much more. By using the magic action and naming one liquid, the alchemy jug can produce up to a certain amount of that material. Though this may sound ineffective, there’s actually a lot a party can do this with.

First, you may make things like acid or basic poisons. This will help with the ranged and melee fighters in your party. You can also make things like water or honey, which can be life savers if you’re playing asurvival-based campaign.

Two or medium or smaller creatures can fit inside this vehicle, which appears at first as a small barrel. However, this apparatus is actually a magical vehicle that acts as a boat and submarine combination. Players can operate it together to reach previously unplummable depths.

In addition to exploration uses, the Apparatus of Kwalish also has combat stats that you can use. If your party is playing a campaign on a vast ocean or archipelago, this item may be perfect. Plus, it looks amazing.

This item is a classic. Bags of Holding can hold up to 500 pounds of items, gold, or other material. But, the bag never weighs more than five pounds, no matter how much is in it.

This means your entire party can make use of this mobile treasury for all the loot they find during their adventure. Just be careful not to overload this item. If you do, the contents will be scattered to the Astral Plane.

Very Rare

Depending on the size of the carpet, this magic item can prove incredibly useful in combat and for exploration. In the 2024 Dungeon Master’s Guide, this item is offered in four sizes, ranging at max to six by nine feet, and able to carry 800 pounds. This means that, if you play your cards right, your entire party can fly off into the sunset on a magic carpet.

This can be incredibly useful for traversing great distances or unreachable heights. In combat, this can allow players to team up and rain destruction from above. Just hold on tight!

Yes

This is a simple yet effective magic item. True, only one person can wield this item, as it requires attunement. But, that doesn’t mean it can’t help the whole party out!

The Rod of Resurrection has five charges. By using a certain amount of charges, this item allows you to cast either Heal (one charge) or Resurrection (five charges). The item then regains one expended charge daily at dawn. But, be warned, if you expend the last charge, you’ll be forced to roll a d20, and on a natural one, the rod disappears.

For anyhorror-based campaign, the Spirit Board is a must-have. This wooden board operates like our real-life version of a Ouija Board. Though sometimes elusive, this board can be helpful for parties that are lacking a sense of direction.

The board has three charges and regains a charge at dawn. While touching the board, you can cast either Augury (for one charge) or Commune (for three charges). Having a touch of extra divination magic on your side can be a huge help to the entire party, especially as this item does not require attunement.

This spooky-looking bottle contains an ever-ashen plume of smoke. If you open the bottle, a cloud of smoke emerges, causing the surrounding area to become heavily obscured. It then expands to the size of 120 feet over time.

The Eversmoking Bottle can prove immensely useful in combat situations. Or, you can also use this item to assist your party with stealth missions. Just make sure you have a way to see through obscured areas, or your party will be fighting blind!
