Summary

Fortnite: Ballisticis very similar to Counter-Strike, where two teams of five players must win seven rounds by planting a device or defusing it. Its gameplay takes a lot of elements from Valve’s shooter but also introduces a couple of unique mechanics that set it apart from experiences like Valorant.

So, instead of picking a specific hero or loadout before every match, you can choose one of five Flex Gadgets that will determine your role in the arena. That’s not set in stone, though, as you’ll need to buy that Flex Gadget on each round to use it, and some of them aren’t really worth your money.

Impulse Grenade Flex Gadget in Fortnite Ballistic.

At the time of writing, Fortnite Ballistic is still in Early Access and features only one map, so some of these Flex Gadgets might be best suited for different arenas later on.

5Impulse Grenade

You might recognize Impulse Grenades from the Battle Royale mode. They were introduced in Season 3 and are often unvaulted by the end of more recent seasons. You can use them to move forward and up fast so you can position yourself better on the battlefield. However, this particular grenade isn’t very useful on the only map available.

you may also try and use it against your enemies, repelling them when they’re trying to get to a location or confusing them by moving them like pieces on a board. Either way, it’s very situational.

Frag Grenade Flex Gadget in Fortnite Ballistic.

Cons:

4Frag Grenade

The Frag Grenade is the most obvious pick of all Flex Gadgets. It deals more damage than the Proximity Mine, although it’s not enough to eliminate a player at full health. It’s great for striking grouped enemies at the beginning of a match or catching unaware opponents in the middle of a gunfight.

It’s easy to aim and pretty straightforward, and everyone knows what a Grenade is, so you won’t have any trouble even if you’re playing with newbies. Sadly, you won’t be able to do much with it, but at least you may stack two per round.

Recon Grenade Flex Gadget in Fortnite Ballistic.

3Recon Grenade

The Recon Grenade was created for Fortnite Ballistic and can mark enemies for a couple of seconds. It’s particularly useful for defending teams trying to spot opponents after they planted the device. The enemies will stay marked for a few seconds only, though, making it really hard for the whole team to take advantage of the Gadget.

It’s best to use Recon Grenades at the beginning of the match to try and see how many players are coming at you. This can help you notice if some players are heading to other locations.

Proximity Mine Flex Gadget in Fortnite Ballistic.

2Proximity Mine

Since the Ballistic map is small and designed for tactical gameplay, the Proximity Mine can be a great asset in battle. It only deals 50 damage but it can hurt unaware enemies with its blast. You should make sure you keep it out of sight and close to heavily transited areas so you can catch opponents by surprise.

The Proximity Mine is best used by attackers after planting the device. That way, you can cover an entrance with it and keep your attention elsewhere in case opponents rush to defuse it.

Bubble Shield Flex Gadget in Fortnite Ballistic.

1Bubble Shield

The Bubble Shield doesn’t seem like anyone’s first choice, but it can be the difference between victory and defeat in Fortnite Ballistic. Like the one from Battle Royale, this gadget creates a dome that stops bullets from coming in or out of it. It’s ideal for planting or defusing the device, as you see your enemies desperate to hit you.

Many players combine the Bubble Shield with a Smoke Grenade that covers its entire surface. This way, opponents getting inside the shield won’t be able to see you and you’ll be able to plant or defuse the device easily.
