Summary

One of the three Warrior Specializations inDragon Age: The Veilguardis the Champion. If you focus on fire elemental damage and Shield attacks in combat, it’s the Specialization you should aim for when you start unlocking skills.

While resetting your skills and getting your skill points back is free and unlimited, there are certain skills any Champion Warrior should aim to unlock as soon as possible because they’re more useful in combat than other options. Knowing which are best in both the early and late sections of the tree will ensure you’re not wasting skill points.

8Fiery Resolve

One of the best Advantages in Dragon Age: The Veilguard is Flaming Weapons. Not only does it deal burn damage, but attacks do more damage when it’s active.

Fiery Resolve gives you Flaming Weapons when you perform a Perfect Defense, so it’s great if you’re someone who parries a lot of the attacks with yellow warning indicators. The skill also makes the Advantage last 50 percent longer, whether you get it from this skill or another way. If you have other skills that award Flaming Weapons, it’ll make you extremely powerful.

The Best Defense skill in Dragon Age: The Veilguard.

7The Best Defense

While The Best Defense skill is limited to those of you who do specific attack types, the bonus it offers is powerful. Shield attacks aren’t always the best option in combat because they’re slower than standard attacks and require you to be much closer to enemies, but this skill adds 50 percent of your Defense number as bonus Shield attack damage.

Shield attacks do increased damage against enemy armour.

Therefore, it’s also a skill that’ll improve drastically as you progress and find more powerful gear. It’ll also benefit from focusing on Gear that has a high Defense stat, rather than those thatoffer high Staggeror other bonuses.

6Ring Of Fire

Many of the ChampionWarrior skillsare focused on Fire damage and increasing the impact of it. Ring of Fire doesn’t change your attacks directly, but it instead extends the range of burn damage, applying burn to enemies around the initial target.

Therefore, when you notice that enemies are attacking in groups, you’re best to use yourFire-dealing abilitiesor anything that triggers the Flaming Weapons Advantage, as you’ll then be able to burn them all at the same time.

5Unbroken Finale

Again, if you’re someone who uses the shield attack in combat more often than the standard light and heavy weapon attacks, then the Champion Specialization is one for you. Unbroken Finale is a Trait you can unlock that improves the effectiveness of the shield attack.

At the end of any attack chain (four shield attacks, or three light attacks followed by one shield attack), a powerful shield attack will be unleashed. Since you’ll often be spamming attacks when in combat, you’ll be doing these attack chains regularly. Now, with Unbroken Finale active, they’ll be more powerful than ever.

4Traumatize

While the Champion section of the Warrior skill tree isn’t as Stagger focused as others, there are still some Stagger skills that are worth unlocking as soon as you’re able to, one of those being the Traumatize skill.

There are lots of Stagger and Takedown focused skills in the Reaper section of the Warrior skill tree.

It increases Takedown damage by 15 percent, so, if you’re Staggering enemies regularly and using the cinematic Takedown attack, you’ll be taking out enemies faster in the process. Some enemies will be killed by Takedowns in one hit regardless, but stronger enemies and bosses will need to be hit by them multiple times.

3Reinforcement

Reinforcement is a great skill to unlock, but is particularly useful if you’re able to chain it with other skills that give you advantages. The skill increases the damage dealt by your advantage by ten percent when unlocked.

While it’s good on its own, since Flaming Weapons is something you’ll have regularly as a Champion Warrior, you may unlock a Ring by completing the arena combat side quest for the Shadow Dragons. This gives you an Advantage for every enemy you perform a Takedown on. Therefore, combining that with this skill is a lethal combination.

2Wildfire

Again, Fire damage is a big part of the Champion Warrior skill tree. Wildfire aids in your attempts to kill everything with fire by increasing Fire damage by ten percent.

This applies to all ways of dealing fire damage too. Whether you’re taking enemies on with Flaming Weapons, using Fire dealing Abilities, or setting off explosive barrels, Wildfire will make them more effective.

1Shield Bearer

The final skill is a late Champion Warrior skill that also impacts shield attacks. Once more, you need to be someone who actually uses shield attacks for it to be useful, but Shield Bearer increases the damage of those attacks by ten percent.

If you unlock it, you should weave shield attacks into your combat style more than you otherwise would. If you didn’t know, shield attacks are more useful against armor than any other attacks in the game. Therefore, the attacks are more useful against strong and boss enemies.
