Summary

Larian Studioshas graced us with 2025’s firstBaldur’s Gate 3community updateahead of the game’s final major patch, Patch 8. The community update, as the name suggests, provides an update on the progress the studio is making with the upcoming patch.

Along with a couple of bug fixes, the post also details some of the specifics of Patch 8’s photo mode. You’ll be able to toggle photo mode anytime you want while freely roaming or in combat. However, there are limits to how much you can operate the mode during cinematics. You won’t be able to adjust the positions of the characters or the camera during cinematics, but you’ll be able to apply post-processing effects to the scene.

Photo Mode Shenanigans

Larian used the opportunity to show off some community creations, many of which are well-known exploits or memes within the community. There’s the Baldur’s Gate 3 version of ‘Distracted Boyfriend’ for one, with Halsin’s elf form being rejected in favour of his bear form. Then there’s a picture of Lae’Zel dropping a mean squat while she berates the viewer.

An image of Dark Urge laughing with an unconscious Alfira in the background is a reference to the fact that if you knock out Alfira in the Emerald Grove then she won’t come to your party camp and wind up being a victim of the Dark Urge’s… urges. Nobody spares a thought for Quil Grootslang though, do they?

There’s also a picture mocking the tendency of companions to be left behind by the rest of the party due to their unwillingness to commit to jumping. It’s completely understandable as jumping is quite scary and Gale is a wizard, not an acrobat.

Larian Studios has announced that it’swholly focused on its next big project, whatever that may be. The studio is currently working on two unknown major projects.
