Summary

Even beforeBaldur’s Gate 3’s launch, it was very clear that it would be a raunchy game. Famously, a clip from the Halsin romance went viral after it was previewed at a Panel from Hell, revealing that we could get down and dirty with the druid in bear form.

However, one of the actors in the game was in for a huge surprise at launch. Neil Roberts, who plays one of the Tav voice sets - the one that’s the default for the Dark Urge - didn’t realise that the game was so naughty until it was already out. This is because much of the main cast didn’t perform the various noises coming from their characters in these scenes, with these responsibilities falling onto other performers.

Baldur’s Gate 3 Halsin Bear Romance Scene

Roberts admitted this during a Baldur’s Gate 3 panel at MCM Comic Con Birmingham today, which he took part in alongside his costars Samantha Béart (Karlach), Dave Jones (Halsin), Andrew Wincott (Raphael) and Emma Gregory (Minthara).

“When I recorded [voice lines] I didn’t do any of the [grunting noises]”, Roberts told attendees. He continued, saying that the nudity in the character creator also came a surprise. “Forming your bodily parts, I was quite shocked, I had no idea.”

On the topic of the noises in romance scenes, Béart added that they didn’t do them for Karlach either, with “specialists” coming in for this part of the performance. Actor Alex Jordan was one of these specialists, and haspreviously talked abouthow he kissed his hand to simulate the noises we hear in romance scenes.

If there’s one actor who was very much aware of what he was getting into though, it’s Dave Jones. He played Halsin, so he had to voice the lines that led up tothatscene. He didn’t actually think that many of us would be up for bonking a bear though, so that might have come as a surprise.
