Summary
Three years after the original game’s release, aBack 4 Bloodmotion capture actor may have accidentally revealed that a sequel is in the works.
Developer Turtle Rock Studios confirmed in February last year thatit would be moving on from the original, with resources being moved to its next project, but it wouldn’t confirm what that was. Now, through a resume and a codename, things may have become a little clearer.
Back 4 Blood Follow-Up Could Be Happening
Spotted byMP1st, actor Jesse Hutch, who reportedly had a motion capture role in the original Back 4 Blood, may have let news of the sequel slip.
On the actor’sIStunt resume, Hutch has listed that he is doing motion capture work as the lead performer on a game called Gobi 2 from Turtle Rock Studios. While Gobi 2 won’t be the name of the full project, as studios often use codenames when working on unannounced projects, signs point to it being a Back 4 Blood sequel.
According toSteamDB, the original Back 4 Blood had the codename Gobi when in development, the name of the studio’s former mascot, a bearded dragon, meaning Gobi 2 likely alludes to Back 4 Blood 2.
MP1st also noted that the domain back4blood2.com has been registered since May last year, roughly three months after Turtle Rock Studios announced it was moving onto a new project, with registering a website likely one of the first steps a company would do when preparing a game.
Turtle Rock Studios is comprised of formerLeft 4 Deadcreators, but their reignition of the isometric zombie formula didn’t initially go as planned. The title averaged71 percent on Opencritic, with reviewers and players alike feeling the gamepaled in comparison to Valve’s legendary title. A sequel, while somewhat a surprise, offers a chance of redemption for the team and, despite its mixed reviews, will likely spark excitement with Back 4 Blood fans.
