Astro Bot was deservedly named 2024’s Game of the Yearat The Game Awards last week, a decision that appears to have rubbed quite a fewBlack Myth: Wukongfans,and some of its developers, the wrong way. If you’re one of the people who isn’t happy aboutAstro Botbeating Wukong to one of the most notable Game of the Year awards then you might want to look away now as it just picked up another.
PlayStation has published its own Game of the Year award winners, running through several categories, some of which are similar to the ones at the TGAs with a few unique ones sprinkled in such as the award for Best Use of the DualSense.PlayStation’s GOTY category is Best PS5 Game, and this year, perhaps unsurprisingly, that award has gone to Astro Bot.
To give its awards an additional PlayStation twist, the winner is given a Platinum trophy while the games that finished in second, third, and fourth in each category are given gold, silver, and bronze trophies, respectively. Black Myth: Wukong has been awarded the gold trophy in the best PS5 game category, and before Wukong fans roll their eyes and say “Of course PlayStation gave the award to its own game”, PlayStation didn’t make the final call.

Unlike the Game of the Year at the TGAs, PlayStation’s Game of the Year is determined by the players. The only caveat with its GOTY is the game had to have been released on PS5 between the time its 2023 GOTY winners were revealed and the cut-off point for this year’s awards. More than 1.6 million people cast their votes across PlayStation’s various categories, and when it comes to the best game on the platform in 2024, they decided it’s Astro Bot.
Wukong did manage to top the pile in one of PlayStation’s GOTY categories, earning the platinum trophy for Best Graphical Showcase.
Elsewhere in PlayStation’s end of year awards,Stellar Blade’s Eve was voted Best New Character,Final Fantasy 7 Rebirthwas deemed to have the best soundtrack, andHelldivers 2provided PlayStation players with the Best Multiplayer Experience of the year.Ghost Of Yoteiwas voted the most anticipated game of 2025 and beyond withWolverinethe runner-up. GTA 6 wasn’t eligible since it won the platinum trophy in the same category last year.
